Ok i got a GF Ti 200, uninstalled my old card, installed standard VGA drivers, took out old card, put in new card and installed drivers, Every game i have installed works(Rouge Spear, Quake III, Quake II, Serious sam, Diablo II) But UT will not work at all, i uninstalled in and re-installed it to no avail. What it does is after the UT logo in the middle of the screen the screen goes black, monitor makes a loud Tick sound, and screen goes darker black. Thats it, it wont go any further, i can bring up the task manager and it says UT is not responding, then i close ut and im back at my desktop with my background pic for some reason shrunk to %50 of the size it was when i opened UT. Its really pissing me off, any ideas? system specs are:

OS: Wink2k with all patches/updates etc.
CPU: XP 1700+
MB: MSI K7T Limited Edition
RAM: 1GB Micron
Sound card: Aopen 744 Pro
Vid Card: Aopen GF3 Ti 200 128MB

Hey, what version of drivers are you using?
If you are not using Nvidia reference drivers
give them a try.

Did you correctly uninstall all traces of your previous video card's drivers?

Also what renderer are you using in UT? Make sure you're using Direct3D and make sure you have the latest 436 patch.

Yes i uninstalled all old drivers. I am usuing the latest patch 4.36, i'm using direct 3D, i even tried all the alternate D3D.dll's on Epic's site, all to no avail. I thought Nvidia was supposed to be the guys WITHOUT compatability problems, maybe ATI wasnt so bad afterall.

Did you uninstall the game and reinstall? If not, give it a try. I've seen UT can be funny when you switch hardware.

I did, next step is go throught the registry and manually delete UT and anyhting ATI, then re-install UT.

Sounds like you are trying to run a resolution/refrash rate combo that is not supported by your monitor. Start UT in safe mode and lower the resolution to 640X480.

Hi,
I had the same problem with UT too but it wasn't my GF3 card, but rather the AthlonXP CPU. Once I switched back to my Old T-bird UT ran fine. I'm using a Asus A7V-133 motherboard which does support the XP CPU and other games ran fine. Since I love UT, I went back to my T-bird for now. I'm using WINXP now but the problem reared it's ugly head with WIN98SE too.

Ok im running it at 640x480, i think my 1600x1200 19" can take it, i do have a XP cpu but why the hell would that matter? my board supports it.

i have tied every resolution up to 1600x1200, including 1024x768. And it cant be my XP cause it worked with my XP and Radeon. I just went through the registry and killed all ATI refrences, didnt help. This is really starting to bother me now, im considering putting my radeon LE back in, at least then i would be able to play ALL my games.

I switched from a Voodoo 5 to a Geforce 2. I couldn't run Unreal because the rendering mode was set for Glide and I couldn't get back in the game to change it. A simple reinstall of Unreal solved the problem for me. I know you tried this but it sound like a conflict of leftover Ati drivers messing with the Nvidia. I think if you reformat it will cure all your problems. Yeah, it's a drag, but sometimes it is less work than continuing to bang your head with the same problem.

For some reason Winxp/2000 refresh rates defaults to 60 mhtz. If you tun vsync on and enable the time demo function in UT you will see it is capped a 60fps. Goto http://guru3d.com/files/ and look for the Windows 2000/xp nvidia refresh rate fix. This will let you set the refresh rate.

I'm guessing your monitor doesn't support 60htz@1600X1200

eww sounds really Scary...
I have a MSI K7T Turbo Limited Edition mobo also but using the Duron 900 and Voodoo 3 instead. Was thinking of upgrading to a Athlon XP 1800+ and a GeForce 3 TI 200 in a couple of weeks, but not changing the mobo. If the games I mainly play are UT. Now I better think twice before taking that step. But I will get the Athlon XP 1800+ this week as I've just gotten the latest BIOS update that supports the Athlon XP CPU for the mobo.

I'm almost positive someone's mentioned this, but it's worth a shot.

Make sure you have an updated version of UT. 4.32 is the best for GeForce compatability. 4.36 has caused some GF problems.

www.geforcefaq.com

They have a link to a site that has a bunch of GeForce fixes.

I have a GF3 Ti500 and no matter what i tried I could barely get it to run D3D UT. I have found SEVERAL other people having the same prob (mostly with the visiontek). I did everything, I am an avid UT player and am very familiar with getting it to work with different hardware. I had my Radeon doing 150fps. ;)

Now what I did alternatively is run OpenGL, worked fine, pretty playable, but my freakin Radeon and VooDoo3 seemed to perform better (The card chokes from 180fps down to 40Fps on busy maps). This GF3 ispretty good in all other games though, even in D3D. Too bad I like UT so much... my ATI Radeon 8500 just got here today, hopefully it will be better.

If you want to run openGL go here, get the better openGL driver, and follow directions right there on main page:

http://unreal.epicgames.com/

PLus I just read that the 8500 smokes with the new Unreal engine, &^#% the GF3, it will be up for sale on the for sale forum. My first Nvidia product, not impressive for the price. :)
