Just got a friends computer, and he needs me to fix it. MSVCRT.dll not found (win 98)

what can i do to fix it? anything other than reinstall? it wont load explorer.exe it seems without this .dll. Does 98 have a system restore on the disk like XP does?

You can just install win98 over itself and it should work fine.

Can you get into windows safe mode? You could try and use sfc.exe to extract the file from the cabs, if they were loaded onto the hard drive that is.

Can you get into windows via safe mode? Press the F8 key as the system is first powered on and booting, then when you get the boot menu, choose safe mode. If it still won't go into windows. Then you could get to that menu again and choose safe mode command prompt. This will get you a c: prompt. With the file on a floppy, type a: and hit the enter key. You should now be at the a: drive. Type this without the quotes.

"copy msvcrt.dll c:\windows\system" and hit the enter key. It should ask you if you want to replace the existing file and you would say yes. Then hope for the best.
