Just got a free Panasonic 42" Plasma TV!!

My relative bought this tv 6 years ago for $7k and now he's giving it to me. I guess it was top of the line back then but It have 720P resolution & weighed 100+lbs lol. I didn't know flatscreen tv could be so heavy.


The thing is that this tv doesn't have a "TV Tuner" and it doesn't have speakers (WTF). I guess I got to go and buy a "TV Tuner"? & a receiver/home theater system? I hooked up my PS2 to it and it have video and all but no sounds.

it's a monitor. Just get a sound system. Conglats on the free tv. Do know that those kind (old plasma) suck a lot of power.

If I want to watch TV, do i need to buy the TV Tuner + HDTV converter box?

Or do i just need the converter box and that'll be fine without a tv tuner?

Do you have HD cable/satellite? If not are you going to get it? If not, you have to invest in a HD Tuner + Antenna, you do not need the converter box. I am assuming it has HDMI port?

What is the model number (on the sticker on the back)

After a closer inspection, I found it only have 3 inputs. RCA, Component, and PC. No HDMI & No OUTPUT of any kind!!

It doesn't even have speakers to top it off. LOL.

This is pretty stupid. I hooked up the Playstation & DVD Player to the TV, have pictures and but no sound. I now have to go and buy a receiver/5.1 speakers.

Kinda defeat the purpose of a FREE tv

I don't know if I would invest too much into it. However a VCR can act like a tuner if you have cable, also any old receiver with RCA inputs can act like a speaker system. If it was me I would hook it up as a grandeur monitor.

Well, even a fairly cheap HTIB (get this one) will blow away the built-in sound from any TV you may get even later, so it's not really a waste.

If you have a cable box, you don't need a tuner...

so use a htpc, output component to it and audio to your sound system.
