Well, I picked up a Dreamcast a few days ago on a whim. I had nothing better to do with my day :) I got a used dreamcast, 2 controlers and 4 VMU's for only $55. :D Works great!

So, I am sitting here looking for stuff to get. What else should I buy? What are some good games and accessories I should get? I tend to like racing games; what do you think is the best one?

I know all about the "backup playability" and EMU's that are out there, so if that is what you wanted to talk about, don't. I would prefer not to see this thread locked, since the legality of playing SNES games on a dreamcast (even when you own the games on SNES) is a grey area. And that is enough to get this thread locked.

I will say that playing the WAD from the Doom Shareware on Dreamcast is pretty cool; Looks decent, and can save games. :) (which is allowed by Id, HA! )

I second Virtua Tennis 2k2, Soul Calibur, Metropolis Street Racing, Worms Armageddon, Busta Move 4, Crazy Taxi, Bomberman Online, Gaunlet Legends if you have 3 other friends to play with and if you like that sort of game.

Crazy Taxi (the original) kicks @$$. I logged many hours playing that
JSRF was cool if you liked that type of game
Soul Caliber was the best fighter on the system
Phantasy Star Online was cool if you like that type of thing
Skies of Arcadia/Grandia was supposedly pretty cool
Sonic Adventure was definetly cool too
NFL2K1/2 and/or NBA2k1/2 are the best sports games
Chu Chu Rocket was also pretty cool (although a little confusing for the newbie)
Gunbird2 is a good overhead shooter (the ones with 8 billion airplanes coming at you with spread machine guns and you have to dodge the bullets and chit)
Shenmue is a good game if you're into puzzle type games
Ecco the Dolphin is weird but fun

Definitely Virtua Tenns. Also pickup Jet Grind Radio, Demolition Racer, Sega GT, House Of The Dead 2 (Doesn't require a light gun, but makes things easier), Typing Of The Dead (requires a keyboard, really cheap now), any of the 2k series sports games, DOA 2. There's tons more that I can't remember. Go to local EB's and look at their stuff. Tons of cool games there.

any other hardware I should pickup? I know it has a built in modem. Is there any way to hook that modem to a swithc or another system and use broadband without buying the super expensive adapter?

And thanks for all the recomendations!

Get two more controllers for a Virtua Tennis doubles match. I haven't find a sports game that beats this setup.
Get House of The Dead 2, and Confidential Mission with a light-gun for shooting fun.
And Berserk - Gutsu's Rage is a challenging one player hack & slash game.
Lastly, you can look silly dancing with 2 maracas in Samba De Amigo :D

Space Channel 5 is pretty funky too, Ulala! ;)

Try Here for a way to fool the modem into connecting through a Windows gateway.

Other hardware? Fishing Rod controller for fishing games. Light Gun for shooting games.
DEFINITELY get Maracas and Samba De Amigo.

TallGeese may still be selling a TwinStick for use with Vitual On: Ontario Tangram. Unless I buy it first but I'm still on the fence ;)

I have a harddrive with over 100 DC games on it. Although technically warez, I am posting because the DC is dead and I would think it would be considered an antique thing. I'm considering selling the harddrive.

Also...a copy of Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram
Then...buy my DC Twin Stick listed over in FS/T :D
as much as I would like to, i am not going to pay $100 for a controller for a system that I spent $50 on :D
Then you have obviously never played VO: OT with Twin Stick controllers before (either in the arcade or on DC). It's fantastically AWESOME!

I've never played it with a twin stick, but I think its probably the only way to play since playing it on the controller just doesnt feel right :(.

No, I have not. I am a racing guy. I may spend $100 on a sweet wheel and petals though :)

I thought you had no job - how you can justify spending $100 on some petals? I mean, what kind of man spends $100 on flowers? ;)
