Just got a check card.....now what?

Got a checking account, and they sent me a check card......how the heck do i use it? Like a CreditCard? ATM? How do i get a pin number for it? Do you pick your own number or is it randomly generated?

Use it like a credit card, but beware because once it's charged, the funds are immediately removed from your acct. and therefore usually hard to recover in the event of fraud or theft.

Which bank?

Your PIN number is usually snail mailed to you in a separate envelope, it should arrive in a few days.

To assign your own PIN number, go to your bank with the debit card and picture ID. They have a machine where they swipe the ATM/debit card and you enter in your desired 4 digit PIN.

Send it to me and I'll "activate" it for you.

Don't sign up for any of those free online magazine subscription things with it. Only give the number out to companies that you trust 100%. I got burned for a few hundred dollars because of a couple of mistakes stemming from an unscrupulous company.

go out and max it out

it's a debit card dude, i'd max it out after $60.....

oops...I thought u meant credit card. now, you can shop online and use it like a credit card, except you don't get protection on it.

make sure ur pin number dont get all over the place.... with that number ppl can do a lot crazy thing about it... may ended up empty ur account with a negative 800 bucks

call your bank and tell them u want a plain ATM card, and not a check card.

check card = sux

if someone steals your check card, your bank acct will be drained immediately. it'll take up to 90 days for the bank to refund u the $. i know u only have $60 right now, but 10 years from now...

rip up that check card and get a regular ATM card (max $500/day withdraw) and apply for a credit card.

i like my checkcard.. its a lot easier than cash... especially with the online banking cause it has a list of everywhere you spend your money. and uh.. just dont lose it.
