I got a slip of paper in my mailbox today saying I missed a delievery for a certified letter from a company I may have applied to recently, I've been applying everywhere so I'm not totally sure if I did or not. Usually, a company will just call or email to set up interviews, why do you think they sent me a certified letter? I guess I will find out tomorrow, but I was hoping someone might have an idea.

Update:
So I went to the post office yesterday morning and got the letter. Basically, it just said that they received my application and have not been able to contact me about the position, and that I should give them a call. I tried calling later that day, but only got the voicemail. Unfortunately, they still have not returned my call. The bad thing about the letter is that it only lists a position number, not the job description and the company website does not list that position number in their career listings. So I assume since I applied it must be a good job for me, but I don't really know. The good news though is that I got a call yesterday from another company with a job offer.

They've reported you to the proper authorities and this is official notification of the restraining order?

That makes 0 sense. All it would say was that it was certified, not that it was for something you applied for.

I'd suspect something good. Why would they send you a certified REJECTION letter?

Hmmm... that's weird.

A certified letter from a business is usually a past due notice or other legal notice of some sort... not sure why an employer would try to setup an interview via certified mail.

If you can say, what's the company?

It probably said the company name on the slip, but the OP knows in his mind that he applied for a job there recently.

I don't owe them any money, as far as I know, and I haven't done anything to warrent legal action so I hope it is good. The company is Synopsys, which would be an awesome job for me so I am pretty excited.

Perhaps they REALLY want him to know that he was rejected :p

Nah, I'm sure it's something good.

Probably sending you a pic of the blonde with big boobs they hired for the position so that you would know she was more qualified for the position :)

Could be a benefits package, all the hire info, and they're just really careful when sending such things out. Who knows.

They sent an NDA agreement that you have to sign before they talk to you.

My last job did that. They still managed to send me the wrong info, tho - they swapped the mailing address / certified label with the other guy who got the second opening!

Go to the post office and pick it up or go nuts on the town tonight and enjoy your last night of freedom. j/k

Really why not just go to the post office and pick it up?

Since the OP never responded, I bet it was something BAD.

LOL, it could be a police sting! They caught a bunch of people with open warrants a while back by telling them they won a boat or something and had to pick it up in person. Those that showed up found themselves in a room full of cops and quickly arrested.

I once got a certified letter with signature confirmation from a company to which I had previously applied for a job. I opened it up and it was a rejection letter :) It cost them around $4.50 to mail.

A week later, I got another letter from the same company, also with signature confirmation and via certified mail. I opened it up thinking that the company may have changed their mind and decided to bring me in for an interview, but lo and behold it was another rejection letter for the same position :) Another $4.50 wasted just to rub into my face. Both of them were hand signed.

I still saved those letters. Those bastards ;)

I work for a government funded "place" and I have received stuff like that from them when I was sent a letter of acceptance. And further instructions on how they would go through my life in every detail (even elementry school). Basically it was a release form.

Back in the days (am I that old?!) it was common for a company to send you a written employment offer.

If it is a rejection letter write them a letter along the line of this:

Dear....,

Thank you for your letter of [date of rejection letter]. After careful consideration, I regret to inform you that I am unable to accept your refusal to offer me employment with your firm. This year I have been particularly fortunate in receiving an unusually large number of rejection letters. With such a varied and promising field of candidates, it is impossible for me to accept all refusals. Despite your firm's outstanding qualifications and previous experience in rejecting applicants, I find that your rejection does not meet with my needs at this time. I would like to thank you for you time and best of luck in rejecting future candidates.

Sincerely,
.....
