so my birthday was on sunday, and i got a 30GB iPod in black.
my verdict? 8.5/10.
Pros:
same price as original 20GB
awesome interface
COLOR SCREEN!
30% smaller
sleek/sexy looking
big screen
apparently, 2 more hours of battery life than 4Gens
video playback and quality isnt that bad at all
improved bass over the last ipods (heard my friends and mine, mine definitely has more bass)
in black and white
free case included
"widescreen" option available in menu
Cons:
battery life is POOR while viewing videos/photos
have to use 3rd party software to convert/make videos (or quicktime pro, i think)
restricted to using iTunes to enable certain functions (enable disk use, import photos, contacts, videos, etc)
gets scratches and fingerprints really easily on it
only comes with the basic stuff - ipod, headphones, cd, etc
no charger (crappy if you're away from your computer most of the time)
no firewire (only geeks would care, but obviously im one of them)
overall, i think its awesome for my very first ipod. if only they included a bit more stuff in the box, supported more file formats, and didnt have poor battery life in some areas, it would have been THE must-have item.
anyhoo, are there any cool things for a 5G ipod? i got some cool maps off this site (ipodsubwaymaps.com or something), and a couple of video clips. i also saw doom 2 running on a 4G ipod, as well as a bootable linux drive too.
my verdict? 8.5/10.
