I just upgraded my Nvidia gf4mx to a radeon 9800pro

When I uninstalled the gf4mx, all I did was go to Add/remove Programs and removed the Nvidia software from there. I never uninstalled the driver from the System Properties.

This may be what's causing my problem.

After I restarted I installed the catalyst 4.10 drivers. In my system properties, under Display Adapters, it says I have a Radeon 9800 Pro AND a Radeon 9800 Pro - Secondary. (this might just be for dual monitors and not an issue)

I uninstalled the Radeon drivers and reinstalled them and that did not fix the problem.

In doom3, the game runs much faster than before, BUT i can see a lot of little red dots on the floorpanels and walls and stuff (not its not blood its obviously not ment to be there). In NFSU2 demo, it looks like someone went into MS paint and went crazy. Also, the EA Games screen was UPSIDEDOWN, so this makes me think even more that it is a driver issue not a bad card.

I THINK it's just a driver issue. This card is NOT brand new, and it MAY be artifacting but I haven't overclocked it.

Also the taskbar icons got changed to some random icons (thats not a big deal, but may help someone figure out my issue).

see in the second picture, all the white dots in the background. that's pretty much what I have in the background with doom3 except they're red.

P.S. I did run a driver cleaner, it removed about 8 nvidia files. Since then I have reinstalled the catalyst drivers and i still have issues.

Sounds like you've got a bad card, but if you try an older Catalyst version (4.08 or 4.09, say) does anything different happen?

What are your temperature readings like? Those little dots are usually results from gpu/mem overheating, to see if that's the case, down clock the card to see if they goes away.

ok. I tried the catalyst 4.9 drivers and it didnt fix the problems.

I installed the catalyst 4.8 drivers and that did the trick..

my CPU is at 48deg celcius. I am not sure of my GPU, its only a pro so I cant check it. it's the stock sapphire 9800pro but it has copper ramsinks and a seperate fan right under it blowing air out the back of the case.

I would like to get catalyst 4.10 drivers working if possible since I heard they provide a performance increase. any suggestions?

thanks

You should look into this more. Often when people overclock their cards, they get red or white specks on the screen that indicate the ram is causing problems. I'm pretty sure the ram, can't recall 100% at the moment. Either that or the gpu.

Anyway, I had red flecks on my card and it would also overheat if I ran it a long time in rooms without good airflow or AC. You might try using ATITool and just letting it show the 3D Cube thingy. I know for my old 9800 Pro that would cause white flecks.

I've since RMA'd my 9800 Pro because those flecks are bad. If you are getting the same flecks that I was, I suggest you try to get your card replaced.

EDIT: I just saw the screen shots of you running ATI Tool. That's what it looked like on my card. Little white flecks. I think you need to get your card replaced.
