I just got , through a friend's formidable discount, a 9700 Pro. Let me start by saying that this is the first ATI card I've ever owned, being a longtime NVIDIA user who never had to worry about driver stability. Now most users say those days of ATI driver instability are over and I hope like hell that this is true - but is there any smaller issue with the current 3.2 cat. drivers that I should know - also, why a separate download for the control panel? Is that necessary or is the driver file enough?

The last ATi card that I owned was the 8500... Had enough issues with it that I sold it and got a GF4. But I have yet to see a problem with my 9700 PRO. :)

the driver might be enough but you would want the control panel to be able to expose anything in the drivers. the only difference with nvidia is that the control panel is bundled together with the drivers. as for small issues, who knows? no one is really complaining

make sure tht u uninstall ALL old video drivers before u pplug the 9700Pro in and install its drivers. I've owned a ATI's, Rage 128, Rage Pro, AIW 8500, TV VE, 9000Pro, 9500Pro (up for sale now) ... all installed without me having to uninstall the old drivers ... BUT the 9700Pro, damn! Had to reformat the hard drive because I didnt unistall the old drivers first - should have tried using redonater but was too pisst off to look at a less drastic solution. all said and done, its a frikkin awesom card!

there is an issue with the cat 3.2 and cs (if you play it). the problem is, basically, if you escape from the game to go to the main menu then hit resume, your screen will go black and there isn't anything you can do but hardboot; i went back down to cat 3.1 drivers.

When I upgraded my AIW7500 to the cat 3.2 drivers, all my video capture progs started crashing....Premiere, Video studio, NeoDVD, etc...all were hosed. Only the ATI capture prog worked. When I went back to the 3.1 drivers, all is well again....
