just got a 940BE and Xigmatek HDT-S1283

I thought these things were popular? does the stock fan suck or not i would prefer to hear from someone who has one, i know the specs but i also know enough not to trust fan specs untill i hear it and see it myself. I also know the delta fans well and know they are great and will last 10+ years and move serious air when you need them to but if the stock fan is good enough i might keep it. Just looking to hear from some Xigmatek owners.

I've tried various xigmatek 92mm and 2 of their 120mm fans and they're no better than cheap generic fans of the same size despite their hypro bearing advertising pitch.

I've put the xigmatek fans on a rheobus and inline resistors and they've all disappointed me. At stock volts they push acceptable amounts of air although a bit loud but they suck for the performance/noise ratio if given lower volts. I haven't touched a delta for 5+ years so I dont know how good the ones you linked are.

To be honest, I'm not a fan of heatpipe direct touch heatsinks. IMO the quality control differences between 2 identical models varies too much for my tastes.

thank you for the input, i had herd that the direct touch heatpipes were the way to go for air cooling, i guess when i pick my stuff up today or tommorow ill see for myself if its worth it. I know the delta fans i linked to will perform and had suspicions thats the stock fan would suck, i will probably get a cheap yate loon for now and upgrade to a fan controller and delta fan in a few months. Thanks for the reply.

I have the S1283 and I run it passively on my Q6600. The stock fan is ok, but it doesn't push much air IIRC. Cleaning the heatpipes and preparing it with new TIM takes a bit longer because of the cracks, but it is doable.

I just installed this and thought i would share my thoughts

Pros:

- Keeps my PH II 940 at 43-45C under full load(28c room temp) stock clock & voltage with AS 5, i also lapped it with 2000 grit paper to mirror polish(CPU and heatsink), this is with prime 95 small fft's

- cheap

Cons:

- Will cover first ram slots, normal ram will fit by 2-3mm but anyhitng with taller heatspreader WILL NOT FIT in the first two slots, MUST install ram first

- Only clears voltage regulator heatsinks by 2-3mm as well, your mobo may differ mine has a fairly large heatpipe cooler on the voltage regulators and this thing barely clears it

- fits in my antec 300 by 5 mm(does not interfear with side fan FYI), if this was ANY taller it would not fit

- Stock fan blows and not in a good way

- comes with crappy generic white thermal grease, plan to buy AS 5 or whatever you want

- The plastic protector on the heatpipe contact surface left LOTS OF GLUE on the heatpipes, i had to spend 10 min cleaning with eraser and alchohol to clean it off

- Pain to get rubber fan mounts on fan, needed needle nose pliers

Thats about it, although it has many cons i must say i am happy with the cooling performance, will OC soon and report back.
