Just got this card and have to say wow. This is my first video card and I can't leave my room now. Just wondering if I should use the drivers that came with the card or if I should get the one on nvidea's site. I'm using the one from Nvidea's site now.

also anyone overclock this card?
and what would be the steps to do this in simple speech.
Also what temp should this card be running at? what temp is too hot?

Thanks a lot

Its an EVGA

Evga=Overclock as their warrenty covers OCing. Go download coolbits.
Use nvidias drivers, they're more up to date.
Have fun with your new card, I just got my 7800gt too.

Alright I click detect optimal settings and got
491/1.14

Should I keep it at this or try for more?

Also what temp. should this be running at?
Could I overclock it more as long as the temp stays down?

check temps first and run some benchmark to gauge where your card is. 491/1.14 I'd say that's fast enough but it's your card. An aftermarket cooling kit is another wise investment to keep your card cool.

I've got mine at 502/1200 and I still can't get easily playable frames on bf2 1280x1024 everything on high...

dont forget the 7800's overclock in steps.

steps of 27mhz i think.

for example, 400Mhz = stock. clocking to 420mhz wont do anything for performance. clocking further to 427mhz and bam you get a performance boost. clock to 435 nothing happens, 440 nothing, 450 nothing, 454 bam another performance boost.

Very interesting, indeed. can you provide some link where this o/c technique can be explored?

While I have heard of the clock speed steps before as many people have exterienced it along with Anandtech early reviews of the GTX.

I question how the heck eVGA can have cards with a core clock of 450, 460 and 470. If the actualy change is at 27MHz steps the 450 needs just a touch more clock speed and it should perform identical to both the 460 and 470 correct?

How hot is too hot?

I doubt OCing is really going to change the temps all that much that it matters. Seems to me the only time any of these newer cards have bad temps is because of bad contact with the HSF. AKA if your getting artifacts at stock speed its not on right. Ocing isn't going to cause heat to make the GPU go bad or artifact but just running the card out of spec with clocks high enough would.

Either way I think 75C or below is OK at full load.

this is an open-ended question where the term YMMV means a great deal.
idle temps: 30c-50c are considered within range, of course the lower, the better.
load temps: 50c-80c are considered within range. lower is better

My cards runs mid 40c idle and ranges from mid 50c-low 60c in loads. These are very good temps for my o/c card largely, thanks to NV5 Silenver cooling fan.

My computer isn't liking the overclocking much. Far cry freezes up and go nuts. I assume its because of my cpu which isnt nearly as fast as anything you guys have.....

but am I right that the cpu of your computer can limit what your card can do?

My advise: stays with stock speed for at least a few days and play as many of your favorite games as possible. Check card's temps frequently and look for any sign of graphical or performance anomallies. Then share your results with us later.

Well everythings been going good. Havn't overclocked at all but my only issue is with need for speed most wanted. Game kind of lags out during high speed chases....I guess I can live with that for now.

But when I get my HD am I going to need to but all these settings to medium or should it handle to high resolutions?

I had freezings in Farcry on my 6800GT which only disabling AGP fastwrites helped. I know that doesn't apply here though... :)

been awhile now and got the hd tv finaly. WOW...

my question is now, when I set the display on the tv there are corners that should be raised like the bottom left corner should go up a bit you know what I mean?

Is there some setting to tilt the picture?
