I just received my 6800GT, and want to know how well my system matches the cards potential. I did notice a huge increase in fps over my 9800pro, and wonder if the card is capable of more. The video card is clocked at 425mhz core and 1.13ghz memory right now and is capable of higher.

Specs:
3.0E P4 cpu
2x512MB memory PC3200
865PE motherboard

My cpu will overclock to about 3.3ghz-3.4ghz without alot of trouble, but I have to reduce my memory ratio. Would buying new memory (for a better overlock) or a faster cpu make enough improvement to be worth the trouble?

I just looked into this for my XP 2400+ (OC'd to 2.2 GHz) and X800XT PE and apparently, I MAY be CPU limited (i.e., my cpu is a LOT slower than the 1 in the article and the X850XT PE is just a little faster than my card...so I'd expect somewhat similar results).

Since your card is a just a little slower than mine, I'd say that you were also. I can't say by how much though.

You're fine. I've had my mobile 2600 downclocked to 1.8ghz and didn't notice any cpu bottlenecking/limits.

In general cpu bottlenecking can only be "seen" a low resolutions. Lower than you play at.

IMHO, CPU bottlenecking concerns are way overstated.

Check this CHART. You'll see your CPU far ahead of a Barton 2500 (1.8ghz) and pushing like 78fps in Doom 3. Geez, the game's capped at 60.

Now that rez ia a little lower than yours, but as the rez increases it just puts more stress on the gfx card, not the cpu.

Again, you're fine

Thanks for the info. I'll just leave the system the way it is, and not spend anymore on upgrades. The fiance may let me live afterall.
