Just got a .22 returned from Savage Arms warranty service

I sent a brand new .22 back to them for warranty service 3 weeks ago as 5-20% of shells (including match grade) were jamming/misfiring. I get it back today from UPS.

1) I sent it with a 10 round magazine. I got a ~5 round (very obviously well used) one back.
2) The bolt looks like it is about 5 years old and heavily used. The paint is worn down on most of the surfaces (and the unpainted metal is scratched up). It seems as if they stripped the oil and cycled it about 4000 times.

*not happy*

The serial number matches. I did just notice something. This may have been there before but I can not remember it having been there. Just below the rear sight on the top of the barrel is a R with a circle around it stamped into the barrel. I am thinking it is not classed as refurbished. Fantastic.

It seems to be the same rifle (unless they grabbed a new barrel and put my old sn on it). The bolt *could* have been replaced. I know they did something to it. I am going to call them in a bit and have a little chat. At the very least I need my clip replaced.

I may live in Wisconsin but that does not mean I open my window and start shooting to see if a gun is working properly.

Too bad you don't live in Texas or West Virginia, then it would be fine.

I can't quite understand the logic of giving a gunowner back a used or inferior gun. That simply guarantees that you're going to have a pissed and armed customer looking for revenge. Doesn't anyone learn anything from the post office?

The sad thing is I know someone who has done that... My brother has killed several things through his bedroom window.

I just heard back from them. They said that the R had nothing to do with them and had already been on there (does not denote condition). As for the clip, they said that they were not showing me as having sent one. Note that I listed all the things included in the box with the paper describing the problem. I informed the rep of that and they are sending me a new one. As for the bolt wear, I am going to take it to the closest gun shop and get their opinion before I talk to Savage about that.

Same here

Same here. I usually shoot my 44 mag revolver in the backyard on the weekends when I get bored.
