What about the 3.0C? How much additional headroom over the 2.8C. Don't consider the cost.

Yeah ,damn malay rumours. Anyways first time I've had a rock solid build right off the back. When I put it together and booted into bios I saw it was running 28c. Then I procceded to install xp and ran asus pc probe. Yup 29-30c I thought this was damn cold my room temp is about 35c and 2 case fans are off (total of 4) laying next to a smokin hot 1800 XP with its doors off.

I'm not to wise on voltage adjustments and everything for vcore and such . Last chip I oc'd was a PIII 600 copper mine. Anyways for the hell of it right off the back I up'd it to 245 fsb it booted went to windows then reset I went into bios and went to advance and bios froze (Since I'm such a compulsive freak can someone confirm to me if thats ok or ever happens). I kept bumping it up from 200 by 5fsb incraments. I would run prime 95 for 20mins then I would run 2 benchmarks in 3dmark 2001 se then 3dmark 2001 se demo ontop of prime 95 and if it passed I'd move on underload it would run 38-41c. I got to 3.36ghz no voltage adjustments everything worked fine in 3dmark just I would load prime95 and second I did would give me the error about the computation I had worked out.

Set it back to 2.8ghz at night and ran memtest 86 all night long (9hrs 0 errors) temp was way up to 35c or so in the morning (does it stress the cpu some during memtest). I guess having my door closed and everything add'd to the heat. Thought I might see a 1c drop from the cermanique starting to adjust sitting at 30c as I type.

I wasn't ready to run the raptors in raid yet so I installed 1 for now. I had a few questions how is raid 0+1 differnt from 0 ? I heard if you loose one you don't loose everything so why dont people run it ?

3 Quick Q's

Anyone else have a hard dime tightening down and screwing in the bolts for the zalman ?

The raptor is the loudest thing in my case damn high pitch noise constantly hurts are they all like this ?

What do you suggest I do next for overclocking I couldnt find the ratios and such for memory found the timings but haven't been able to since not use to ami bios. It was 2.5cl, if i change it should i retest memtest 86 or going 9 hours im most likely not gonna have problems ?

Sorry if this is typed crappy raptor kept me awake.

NM figured out how to adjust ram. Adjusted to 2-3-2-8-8 or so and it wouldn't boot =\ monitor light goes orange like it would with a failed overclock whats fastest way to have it reset ? I flip the power switch and wait gotta do it like twice before it resets. Oh and my specs are in my sig now

*edit*

Adjusted to 2-3-3-8-8 Great now my raptor made a weird whiir and click like it shut down and died cant boot off it now .

Yup its dead comes on whiirs up repeats clicks shuts down over and over. Dead raptor after 10 hours how fantastic what a piece.

*edit 2*

After a few reboots the raptor booted (I'm really worried about long term life of the hd now =( ) I ran sandra soft memroy bench with my ram at 2-3-3-3-8-8 and got 4695 MB/s and 46452 MB/S.

I assume its ok to hook up the power supply fan to the case fan 3 pin slot on mobo ? it was more convinent... Replaced Enermax Psu with antec its a lot worse other one +12v would sit at 12.05 and everything just slightly above req. This one sits at+12v @ 11.97 +5v @ 4.972 +3.3v @ 3.23 Vcore @ 1.488 underload i assume its acceptable just worry about the 3.3V

my 3.0C on P4P800-D went to 3510mhz

my neighbor's 2.8C can go ~3400mhz @1.55V, he's been having trouble with his ram lately so thats maybe whats stopping his OC. (He uses an Abit IC7-G)

Jondbold,

How you get the problems worked out. I'm planning on building a system very similar to yours. Is the Raptor really that noisy? I was considering getting one myself. Also, how do you like the Zalman CNPS 7000- CuAL?

stardust,
Thanks for the feedback. Do you think the extra 110 mhz is worth $130?

Answer: I love my stability and he (my neighbor) doesn't ;). btw he made 3400mhz with MY OCZ PC3700 Dual Gold

I have a 2.8c (SL6WJ) on a IC7-G (latest bios) with Corsair 3200 at 2-3-3-6 settings, 1.675 CPU voltage and I'm running "rock solid" at 3508.0 Mhz. I'm using Swiftech H2O cooling. By "rock solid" I refer to games that I play. Prime95 only lasts about 12 hrs. at this speed, but several days at 3400 mhz. I haven't pushed any higher on games yet, as I'm waiting to overclock further until I relocate my radiator to a better spot. Memory and voltage were the settings I had to use to get to 3400mhz stable under Prime95, and I haven't played with them under game testing. I was running in the high 40's under my Prime95 test, but this machine is still in my garage, not air conditioned.

I'd like to hit 3.6, but 3.5 isn't too shabby for a game system...

After dealing with my raptor I wouldn't get it again the high pitch squeel gives me a headache. Also I finnaly updated my bios to 1008 (Is 1009 offical if so whats new is it worth it ? ) What intel packs do I grab im use to via.. I didn't get that performance accelerator thing said my chipset didn't suppourt it or somthing when i ran it off asus cd. I'm not sure where u go to adjust the ratios for mem in asus bios like 3:2 5:4 or whatever. What I need help on is figuring out memory and voltage settings if there's anyone that doesn't mind me hitting em up on aim or icq mine are 26528888 (icq) n00bified (aim) please add me i'm in dire need of realtime answers for some stuff. I've ran fine at 3.2 but 3.3+ is iffy not sure voltage wise how much to bump.. and what else to check/do

You guys are making it tough for me to decide between the 2.8C and 3.0C, although I'm not looking to water cool.

umm well if your overclocking...i actually suggest a 2.6C hehe...
i don't regret paying a premium for my 3.0C because i DID pay a premium for my PC3700 EL ram! If you don't plan on getting such expensive ram to run your P4 (eg. 3200,3500) u could use a 4:5 ratio and a lower multiplier (12,13,14) to get a faster % of boost from your system and a higher fsb. If you're like me and want everything to run in Synch and tightest possible timings and have a good source of cash (my grandparents ;)) then the 3.0C w/PC3700 OCZ is a perfect combo for you.

The 3.0C is running in synch @234fsb with the memory @DDR468 (2-3-4-8) and being as lucky as i am...its AIR COOLED! :D 1.628V

ps. u have a great motherboard..although if i were u i woulda gotten a abit IC7 or even the P4P800 because i heard something about PAT malfunctioning after DDR400
