Just got $440 in amazon.com gift certificates, help me choose an mp3 player (from amazon.com)!

I'm probably the last person to have an mp3 player (not counting my computer of course). However, i have absolutely no idea how to choose one out. I do have a few basic needs though:

Ability to play up to 256 kbit and VBR mp3's and wmp (or whatever it's called), OGG would be a bonus but not necessary

Not too large

Removable storage (but NOT CD-r's)... is compact flash the only option? I want solid state, no moving parts

Good battery life, at the very least, 6 hours of play time

Easy navigation

USB connection

Edit: Oh and one more thing, i want to keep it in the $200 - $250 range (but of course, if there's a good mp3 player for less, i'll buy it 🙂)

Just curious but are you a T-Mobile sales person? If so, did you just get your gift certificates today?

I'm working part-time for a cell phone company that happens to sell t-mobile. T-mobile rewards sales associates with gift certificates for every 39.99+ plans that we sell. I made a lot of t-mobile sales in december 😀

no the Ipod transfers thing to the PC and from it using Firewire. and you need a firewire card to have one. and you can get them for liek 10$. they go in a PCI slot. like a USB card

Oh i c.... sounds like a plan!

So are there any other good mp3 players besides the IPOD (everyone seems to worship the ground it walks on! :Q)

Dude honestly~
it's prolly something you wont even be using for a long time~..

just get something that would hold maybe 40-50 songs that you'll listen to and spend the rest on something more useful..

a 128mb RIO would hold about 30 sons I believe~ and that's a lot of music itself..

especially if you just want to listen to the weekly hits

Sorry, but the iPod rules all.

I have the 10GB version and it rocks. Hands down the best MP3 player I have ever used.

Ipod is definitely the only choice.

Or you can get a PDA and 1GB sandisk, I doubt you can listen to 1GB of mp3 let alone 5GB.

I was going to guess doing surveys, that's how I've gotten $885 in amazon gift certificates. I'm was saving up for a HDTV, but unfortunately amazon doesn't carry any good ones...might just get a 20gig ipod. 😛
