True. An 18% raise for a good many professionals would be like a few extra grand a month after taxes.

I got a 3% raise about 2 months ago... it really surprised me, because I started with them in September so I had only been working for 3-4 months and they gave me a raise :Q. That made me feel crappy for ever browsing the net at work :p.

it is okay. I don't "hate" it or "love" it, but i am satisfied with it currently. I am learning new things and getting experience. I have the potential to move up to a management role since i have a very good rep with higher ups. If i could get in management or project management/leader, i think i would have a lot more fun, but in the meantime, i am thankful for what i have! :)

Do they have a set budget for raises every year, and give the top x people in a group a certain percentage, then the next x people a lower percentage, etc?

My co-workers always tell me how broke they are. However, they are spending money either on new gf's or renovating their house. Or even buying new cars. I've just gotten started but I'm hoping my work gets noticed come review time and when the year is over.

We'll see though. My job is to learn everything and replace another guy here who is going back to grad school. He probably makes $15 more than I do, but I've already learned probably 80% more than he does. And I've taken on some new projects.

Raise? 0%.

Does that account for company growth, etc.? For instance if a company grows 20% a year, does pay adjust as well? Or does the big man on top benefit. :)

A few extra grand after taxes means ~$3000/month.
That is $4300/month before taxes (Assumed a 30% tax rate).
$4300/month x 12 months = $51,600 = 18%

Before Bonus Salary: $286,666
After Bonus Salary: $338,266

'A good many' professionals? I don't think so. Maybe a few, high end professionals such as doctors or lawyers, but 'a good many' professionals top out at $80,000/year.

i don't really know how it works for sure. Our reviews were point based, so it might have to do with that. The senior exec VP is in her first year along with me and i think we did it a little different from the past from what i am hearing.

Yea, I think I know what Im going to get. The question is, when do I want to pop the question. We're going to Vegas at the end of this month. I dont think I want to buy a ring right now, but Vegas would be a great time and place to do it.

I'll keep you posted.

Vegas would be a good time to pop the question, but not to get married. Make sure you don't do a spur of the moment Vegas wedding!

18% is pretty good. did you ask if it was all for merit or if they found out they were underpaying you?

either way, congrats.

For any highly professional career, there is a giant ramp-up in salary between no experience, and five years experience. Lawyers definitely have it that way.
