How is paying $50, free ?

My take on Playstation Plus is its a great deal to the extent I got a free trial.

for a bargain hunter, like me, the key advantage of a console over the pc is there's a market for used games.

There's a number of ways to take advantage of that, and I see that as a better use of the money a Playstation Plus membership costs.
True, I guess what I meant was they are free with the service. I am used to calling them free games because they have free or discounted games every week.

It's not but... Say you pay $60 for the 1yr membership and download 3 "free" games that normally cost $20 at retail. Any games you download after that are free for the rest of the year. The downside is you don't get to keep the games if your subscription lapses. I consider it a long term rental program. Plus I just get my family to buy me the sub for Christmas each year. Cheap gift for them.

Reinstate your subscription and you get those games back. My membership ends tomorrow. However, I'm going to wait until E3 to purchase again in case they announce any incentives (like spend $50 get a $10 code and whatnot). I can live without PS+ for a week.

Just wanted to post this here for the OP

Last of Us drops next week on Friday June 14 (day after E3 ends). It's Naughty Dog's and likely Sony's send off for the PS3 while they transition to the PS4.

Anyway the demo is amazing and even though it's only 15 minutes, I played it 5 times and did things different ways. It's got incredible atmosphere and sound (LPCM 7.1). The control is solid and you really get a sense of urgency and suspense at the right moments. Love it. Graphically there is nothing better this gen IMO on a console. The textures are clean and sharp. Characters look very realistic and the animations are fluid.

Definitely give it a look.

I got the 15 months for $49.99 and considering the plethora of free and discounted games you get it is worth it. Many you will not play, but you get enough that are worth your time to more than pay for itself. The extra discounts on top of regular sales are nice too. RE4 HD is normally $19.99, but during the RE sale a couple months ago it was ~$13, and only $9.79 for PS+ users so i picked it up. Almost all the normal PSN sales have extra discounts.

PS3 was one of the best purchases I've made on a console. I use it almost exclusively as a media hub though, lol.

I have alot of dust on top of my game cases!

The Assassins Creed series

Start with AC2 though, which is by and far the best game in the series. Then play Brotherhood and Revelations to finish the Ezio storyline. I wouldn't bother with AC3. It's not bad but it's not good either. AC1 is a terrible game IMO. Don't waste any time on it.
