Just Fried My $549 card

OCGuy

Lifer
It was $600 at one point if you include tax and shipping :/

Long story short....was playing around with my rig and left the side off of the case....then knocked over my beer tonight and a couple drops landed on the 7970. 🙁

On the bright side I have a legitimate excuse to tell my lady for going out and blowing $600 on another card, but is anything on this salvageable?

It was literally two drops on the underside of the card. The whole comp didnt short, it was just a brown screen. Luckily I hadnt sold one of my old 5850s so I swapped them out....

Moral of the story: Drinking and gaming don't mix. And leave your damn case together.

Actually the only thing u lost is two drops of beer😎 Sorry for the loss man, next time grab a straw while drinking beer 🙂.What are u planning to get anyway?

My condolences.🙁

If the card really is dead then there's nothing you can really salvage. The HSF would still be in working condition, but unless this is a custom card with a unique HSF then it has no value separated from the card.

So sad. Such a nice card, and so young too.

And had you known it would be going out so soon and in such a fashion, imagine all the guilt-free, completely irresponsible hard voltmodding you could of done.

Oh well. Just consider that life is a valley of woe filled with pain, misery, hunger and despair.

I feel bad for you, OP.

If it makes you feel any better my wife spilled miso soup onto my motherboard about a month ago. I was tinkering inside my case and she walked by with the soup and it slipped. 🙁

So my Phenom II X4 setup died.

I had something similar happen to my 4890 but instead of beer it was a wire clip that dropped from CPU heatsink. I RMAed it and two weeks later the same card came in working condition. So unless you want to be anally "fair" you will probably receive a replacement or have it repaired.

Just admit it, you deliberately spilt your beer on the card to get a 680gtx instead.
How else could you have rationalized the purchase?😛

I ruined a PC once being clumsy - knocked over a glass of ice water on my desk and it poured right into the top fan hole and fried the motherboard.
