Just fried a duron 1100mhz.

LOL, i just had the heatsink sitting on cpu and fan plugged but
within second of turning it on, it started to smoke. mobo started making beeping screeching noise!
Oh well, lesson learned...
Other times I had it latched in but fan not plugged in, so heatsink got very hot but it did not fry. Guess I'm not so lucky this time.

i suspect it need quite a bit of pressure for the heat to dissipate from cpu.
poor design w/out any shims, why do amd enjoy making naked cpu so much and the new duron 1600mhz is no exception either.
Very easy to chip/crack too if you're not careful when installing HSF.

Intel started the trend, AMD shouldn't have followed, but they did.
