Just found out that my town does not allow fast food restaurants...

no Mcdonalds, no Burger King nothing...
Not even pizza hut even though its not exactly fast food.

oh and no drive thru's at all. Not even Dunkin Donuts

It's not exactly a small hick town either. Just rich snobs...

Many well-to-do towns have restrictive zoning in place to keep "undesireable" businesses out.

A lot of uppity towns have ordinances and rules that do not allow places like fast food joints or anything with drive-thru's. They want to keep their little Stepford looking town looking like THEIR version of perfect. There's a town by me that's like that. But somehow a Burger King was able to get set-up there. Although it doesn't look like any other BK you've ever seen. It looks like a dentist's office, with white siding, and lavish landscaping. And no drive-thru.

my town does not allow adult clubs, strip clubs, adult bookstores, exotic dancers, prostitutes, escort services...

Where do the high school kids work?

They don't have to because mommy and daddy are rich. So they spend their afterschool time experimenting with drugs and getting each other pregnant.

Interesting.....

My town doesnt allow that same stuff either. It's to help local business I believe. But the town next to us doesnt have that rule, so they put all that stuff as close as possible to the border.

The way the rule was written for the small towns in a tourist trap where I grew up was that you couldn't have any chain restaurants. There was a way around it..if you built the fast food joint inside a gas station. They soon closed that whole up when my former boss was about to do that for a Mickey D's.

It's their choice as for the rules. If you don't like it don't visit or live there I guess. I know I don't!

I live in a nicer area. Walgreens just got voted down. Wal-Mart had a hell of a time getting in. They had to take a VERY small store front so it's not "large" fro mthe outside. We have regulations on signs. Now 50 foot tall signs with Burger King, etc.

It makesthings nicer indeed. I want ot say that signs have to be approved. Alot of them are not lit and are made of wood.

My town, Ojai, CA, doesn't either so the fast food joints are right on the border and Ojai loses the tax dollars.

I believe this is called cutting off your nose to spite your face.

I personally support this idea. Many rural towns should be able to keep their simplicity and charm. When I was young I would go fishing to a small town in northern WI. Rather simple town - no stop lights, fast food, etc. Just a local pizza place IIRC. Now, the town is full of McD's, BK, etc. I have little desire to go back now that the town has changed.

Note: I'm not against big business at all. I believe limitations should be observed.

My town did the same thing when I lived in CT...even had rules on what colors and the # of colors that could be used by businesses for decorating the exterior of their stores. The reason for all this was that the town had some historical siginificance...and the people who lived there were all rich snobs (and still are).

The town I just moved to has about 7,000 people, and all the fast food places (well, BK, Taco Bell/KFC and Pizza Hut) are right off the freeway that runs along the edge of town.

I live in las vegas. The biggest anti-business rule we have is that prostitution is not allowed within county limits.

😀

Kangaroos are not allowed to have sex within Portland city limits.

Hawaii has a law that says it's illegal to get coins stuck in your ears. 🙂
