i work for a private company and i posted a few months ago about their announcement. looks like they booked about 2 conference rooms in our building for 8 hours each.
any guess as to how they're gonna conduct this stuff?
i'm guessing they won't try to squeeze everyone together in the rooms and perhaps do it as a batch of groups throughout the day.
or...
there's the "good" (survivors) room and the "bad" (laid off) room
safe to say, i'm pretty darn nervous but there's nothing i can do. i do plan to go to the gym throughout the day like i did in college and cut 20 pounds at least 😛.
update:
Well the day has come and gone. I still have my job, but unfortunately some of the people (good, hard working people) who sit near me and are on my team were let go. A few hundred were let go today and it's the end for now (according to mgmt)
It was painful to watch people you worked with pick up their things and go. it's hard to say anything besides "bye."
The way things were executed was they phone called the impacted people 1 by 1 into the rooms throughout the day until we got positive confirmation late afternoon it had ended and that everyone could relax. I really think there could have been a better way to implement this. Perhaps give the manager a list of the people and get it over with early in the morning instead of a day long's worth of agony.
I don't feel as happy as i thought i'd be. you still kind of get the lingering sense of fear that more cuts may happen in the future if the economy continues to spiral downward.
By far one of the most stressful days of my life and everyone kind of just sat at their desk not working and waiting for the phone call. At least for now i can sleep a bit better with a lighter cloud over me.
