He and my Aunt would have celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary this year. He is a WWII veteran who fought in Iwo Jima and Okinawa.

He was always one of my favorite Uncles and I never got the chance to sit and talk with him about WWII and his time overseas.

If you have someone that you want to learn something from, don't wait. Learn from them now or you may never get the chance.

Sorry if you guys think this is threadcrapping, but pyonir's post reminded me of something. Anybody ever find out about the death/sickness of a friend or relative only "through the grapevine"? My gf's uncle died recently and her parents didn't tell her. She found out through some third party, apparently :| . I can understand wanting to save someone the heartache, but I'd appreciate even more that they tell me rather than having me find out the hard way. She felt the same way.

That is very sad.

What did he die of? I hope he didn't suffer.

My girlfriend and I give our condolences for your loss.

Agreed. If I died I certainly wouldn't want to do so in ignominy.

He had an infection in his lungs and they couldn't save them. Not to mention kidney problems. It is better in the long run...no more suffering.

Thanks a bunch everyone. It is appreciated.

NTB nah man...that isn't thread crapping. I know what you mean...my mom called me about this about an hour after he died. So luckily i found out quick.

Wish i could be back in MN for the funeral next week. But i just won't be able to make it.

My sincere condolences. It makes it especially sad since he is a WWII veteran, we owe those folks so much :(
