just found out i'm an heir to my biological families estate

was adopted, got a letter in mail from an atty that the last living "Anonymous" was found dead and did not leave a will, Anon is my biological father's brother.

His estate is going to be divided amongst the living decendants, which is me and my brother+sister.

I haven't had any contact w/ this family since I was 10 and I never talked to my uncles/aunts on that side.


Atty informed me there is more then likely a huge debt to pay off and probably won't be any $ coming out.

Would be cool to get $100 though


Anyone experienced this before?

Based on how long it took to settle my godmother's friend's estate (which was very small) and how long it is still taking to settle my grandmother's estate (over 2 years now), expect to wait.

Yeah I was a minor league pitcher making chicken feed. My rich uncle died and I was the only heir... There was a catch though, I had to spend 30 million dollars in 30 days or I wouldn't get anything. I could not give it away, spend it frivolously, or tell anyone about the arrangement and at the end of the thirty days, no tangible assets could remain. It was hard but I found out who my true friends were and it showed me not to waste my money. I did it, though it was really close because of some sneaky people.... But the end result was I inherited 300 million!

In fairness it was based on this book and there have been several movie versions but the 1985 version is the one people know the best.
