I just got rid of the biggest cockroach in the world. First one that I have ever seen in my apartment. Any recommendations in what I should do now?

Where do they come from? Any ideas as to how they come in etc...

They usually come from eggs in your bedding at first, but later they crawl out of your nose when you're sleeping at night as the second generation of eggs usually get laid internally. As long as two don't try to crawn out of each nostile at the same time and cut off your breathing, you won't notice, so don't worry.

Yep. Apartment have common plumbing and Cockroaches use it like a highway. You can keep a clean apartment but if the guy two Apartments down is a pig then the Roaches will migrate from his Apartment to yours by way of the plumbing. If you do move be sure to fumigate all your belongings as the odds are some will be hitching a ride with you. Look behind your Refer, within the electronic of your stove and oven and even in your toaster. If you have an infestation they might be hanging out there. Cockroaches are extremely dirty insects as their feces clings to the hair on their legs.

I learned all about these disgusting vermin when I was a Property Manager. I've seen thousands of them in a single dwelling before. I've seen them swarm out of the spaces between the Cieling and the cabinets when an exterminator sprayed only to fall on him by the hundreds (it was just like a Horror movie) I hate cockroaches.

Say Red, since you're a roach expert maybe you could answer a riddle for me. I guy has nine roaches. If he can make a joint out of three roaches, how many can he make out of the nine?

Our house had a real big infestation of the smaller type of cockroaches (german cockroaches I think). We tried everything but none of it worked until my dad bought some type of brown RAID paste. It was like $10 for a tube of the brown stuff but the roaches ate that stuff up like there was no tomorrow, and we had dead roaches all over the house. After like 3 days, we could not see a single roach in the house. Its 3 months later and there still arent any roaches here.

For every one you see there are a hundred that you do not see.
And they come out when the lights go off.

Think about that.

Oh: unless the roach was over 2 inches it does not qualify as large, btw.
EDIT: Oh and the answer is 4...now where is that pizza?!?!?!

The worst infestation of roaches I have ever seen is in shopping malls...the german roaches live in the plants and thrive by the thousands in the food court. Horrid horrid scene: watching an exterminator oil down a trashcan from the food court and have 2,000 german roaches run out...

ech.

If you have no food around the house... No cockroach....

I was a starving student back in the college days... no food, no cockroach....

If you have food, do not leave it out in the open.

I remember last time in Detroit , I dropped my sandwich near the sewage drainage of some sort, and immedately 6-7 cockroaches appeared in broad daylight to feast on my sandwich.

The two best anti-cockroach methods I know:

1. Powdered boric acid (very cheap, and not highly toxic to humans, but don't leave it where pets or children can get it.)

2. Geckos. These little guys chase down cockroaches like you wouldn't believe. They love to chow down on roaches. Of course, not everyone wants little reptiles running around their apartment, but if you're cool with that, a few geckos make great pets and you'll never see a live roach again if you let your lizards run around loose at night!
