Well, 4 hours later I finally figure out my problem.. I was affected by the notorious infinite loop error with nvidia cards.

I had no idea what was going on as every game would crash.. no errors, no nothing.

Anywho, I give up all hope after trying everything (including even trying to repair the Windows XP install) with no avail..

Then after the total format I see a BOSD when a game crashes.. nv4_disp.dll was killing everything.

2 or so hours later of hunting the internet I find out its a very big problem that was never really fixed.. another hour later of trying different custom build nvidia drivers all is well in the land of Jezo.

And now I sleep.

Oh, and if anyone has ever been affected by this error go
here.

I formatted because I couldn't remember my password to XP after changing it. I lost ~13 gigs of music. But that's okay. I have them back and my collection has grown to 30 gigs. :) I also lost pictures, saved email, and letters from people that I was too stupid to backup. :( I now use Norton GoBack and it's saved my butt a few times. :)

Err, could you not have booted into DOS and then copied the stuff to another hard drive?

BTW, once you do a fresh install with all drivers, programs, important stuff installed, Ghost it so you can just format and copy the backup over for a fresh dealie.
