as a special treat for my girlfriend, i replaced the delta black label on my sk6 with a mid speed antec 80 mm fan. she constantly complains about the sound of the fan, and it is even starting to grate on MY nerves (it wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't so high pitched). my load temps are 57* with the Antec instead of 50* with the delta, but MAN IS IT QUIETER! this is the reason i'm going to go pIV. those stock intel coolers (which are actually really good) are almost noiseless.

[edit: wow, i just put my CPU back to default, and my temps are fine with this fan. hmmmm, maybe i'll keep it this way until i sell the mobo, cpu, and sk-6. 1 gHz should be fine, as i haven't really played any games in a while.]

For Valentines day, how about taking off more than just the Delta?

Those aren't high temps.
Different boards, different temps, different ambient air temp etc etc etc ....
I've been running mine at 61C under load 100% of the time for like half a year now.
It never crashes and it's totally fine.
So why are his temps too high if the computer works?
I don't get it.

<< Damn those are high temps either way. Are you using ASII or III?

Or you could just leave him alone..

If he is stable, and it never crashes or reboots, then you don't need to worry.

You fricken people have "pissing contests" over who has the lowest temps. Nobody cares. You build your system, you acheive your OC, and you never need to look at MBM5 again.

Now he will think he may fry his CPU or something.

....

And if he isn't using any Artic Silver products, no big deal, it doesn't matter.

^Preach on brother man!!!^

I hang out here less nowadays. The forums are starting to smell like the coffee shop parking lot (ie, gino's showing off their ginomobiles).

I wasn't attempting to have a 'pissing contest' or anything of the sort. In fact, I wasn't even saying he should lower his temps... they are just warm for my liking. I know that my system runs stable at 56 c too, but I would much rather keep it cooler. It was only a friendly suggestion, sorry.

Warm for you liking? What you "like" doesn't matter. If the CPU is too hot, your system reboots, if it never reboots, and is stable, you are fine.

I didn't mean this to be a personal target, but you just seem to always make your "suggestions" in every thread I see.

Peace

my system is totally stable. i don't consider 1.47 gHz at 1.89 volts with a load temp of 50* as being high. with my system at 1 gHz, 1.79 volts, my system runs load of 51* with the lower CFM 80mm fan. none of these temps are high, in my opinion. they would be lower, but i have an aluminum midtower case with a 420 watt PSU about 2 inches above the processor. even with a fan on both sides, this PSU heats up the sorounding area a lot. anyway, i'm getting rid of this combo in a month or so, so the whole issue is academic. for the time being, however, i think i will put up with less speed so that i don't have to hear the drone of the delta.

What are you replacing it with? That's a pretty jacked rig as it is. :D The drone of a delta sucks : ( I dumped it for a watercooled rig with 7 volted 120mm fans. Nice and silent. or almost.

i'm going to sell this motherboard, cpu and heatsink to a friend and then buy a northwood 1.6 gHz p4. i'm not sure what motherboard yet, but i'm looking at abit's 845-D and sis 645 boards. actually, a few minutes ago i put a second 80 mm fan ( a low speed sunon 80mm) on top of the antec that was already there, and my load temps at 1266 mHz at 1.79 volts is 53*. unfortunately, my idle never goes below 45*, because of the powersupply location problem i mentioned. i think i'll go buy a lian-li pc-70. it'll take a couple months to save up, but i think it will be worth it.

If you want a good case that doesn't cost nearly as much, check out the Antec series of cases. IF you want more info just ask.

I'd get aluminum for my next case... thermal dissipation is better.. much lighter in weight.. recyclable with aluminum cans.. what else could you ask for?

Don't forget to take the ABIT TH7II and Asus P4T-E into consideration.
