Just for fun I configured a Mac Pro with everything and it comes to over $22,500 bucks

There is no point to this thread , I did it just for fun , but it is rather surprising it can get that expensive.

a few of the add ons.....

Two 2.93GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon [Add $2,600.00]
32GB (8x4GB) RAM [Add $6,100.00]

But dang man, this would be one bad @ss Mac ! :D

Oh, yea, it can get pricey. But you have to go third party for the RAM. Now just to save your self $4000, but also because the Mac Pro can take 64GB of RAM and I think you can get the 8GB sticks via a third party.

Don't forget the 4x 2TB drives!

Apple overprices drives/RAM by double at least (heck, $300 for a 1TB HD is triple the going rate!) for high-end clients like studios with "use it or lose it" budgets. But any mere mortal consumer who doesn't shop around elsewhere for third party add-ons would have to be slightly crazy, or just steeped in the belief in "Apple makes the whole widget, so I must get everything from Apple!" marketing ploy.

To me, (and again, thinking as a mere mortal) there's nothing I can see being overcharged by such gross amounts would gain, vs. just buying several MacPros.

Yeah, that's one of the main reasons I went with a Hackintosh instead. A couple years ago, I priced out my dream Mac Pro at $12,500 :Q I started researching options and found that I could build a Hackintosh the equivalent of the more reasonable $7200 model for about $1800. Went with that and haven't looked back :)
