Just finished watching The Ring, and WTF?

Isn't this supposed to be a scary movie? I didn't see anything in there that the Exorcist didn't do much better 30 years earlier. And as far as I can tell, they never explained why the tape killed you, or why making a copy saved you. It makes no sense, and they didn't even bother to throw in a bunch of good scary scenes to make up for a lame plot. Throughout the whole movie, I just kept wondering when the scary stuff would happen, and then the credits rolled. Awful, awful movie, imo.

ok its not as bad as you're making it sound, but yea it was pretty bad.
The tape killed you coz if you watched it the girl will take out her anger on you.

Samara wanted her "story" to be spread around the world, so if you made another copy of the video, you were spared death because you did what she wanted

I just thought the plot was so thin that nothing could save it, certaintly not "scary" makeup. The whole premise is stupid. How does a girl make a video tape like that? Why would someone pissed off at being killed go on a killing spree of their own? It just seemed lame and completely too artificial to even allow me to suspend belief enough to accept it all.
