Just finished Upgrading!

I just ordered a Duron 700@950 from Compuwiz1 and I'll put it in a Pro2-A too. That will smoke my Celeron 500Mhz. I should get ~3Mk/s. 🙂

Me three (just a Pro2 🙁). I got a Duron 700, did the Loctite and have it at 892 right now (8.5 X 105) at 1.725V. Benches at about 3.1 Mkeys. Other than a bunch of MX300 sound card problems, I'm loving this VIA/AMD combo and I swore I'd never go AMD after a K6-266/FIC 503+ POS.

This board is rock solid, haven't had a lock up yet. I'm hosting my PProxy on it under W2K, currently running the Pro2/Duron 893, BH6/Celeron II 950 and my ExecuRack--another BH6/Celery 950 and a BP6/dual 550's.

I tried to put on loctite but it was too hard to get it on the small bridges.

It must be upgrade fever time. I'll be getting a 1Ghz T-Bird and Pro-2a from Russ/Compucheap. Time to go to the auto parts store. Do you think Loctite wonders why so many defoggers have gone bad recently???

micron--yeah it is a beetch. I use a magnifying glass in a clamp to keep both hands free, then use a needle with the end bent at 90 degrees. The first time I dip the needle in I just let it dry for 30 seconds or so then dip it in again and then touch that 90 degree bend on the bridges. Goof Off will remove the Loctite if you mess up.

Oh, one other thing. Don't forget to punch out the three holes for the onboard sound on the case gasket--it's a PITA to do it with the MB and everything screwed down 😱

Sorry I know this is OT, but what's the difference between the Pro2 and 2a? 686a and 686b?

The PRO2-A has ATA100.

The Pro2a lets you adjust the voltage, the Pro2 doesn't. Forgot what the different chipset designation differences were although they might be related to the ability to adjust the voltage... and/or might have something to do with support of ATA/100... or maybe none of the above! 😉

Russ shipped my Pro2a late last week and a bunch of parts like the FOP32-1, HD, CDROM are in transit. The CPU, RAM, and case are here though.... Got a week 45 Duron 700. I'll see how that does... The database on overclockers.com doesn't list that one though. 🙁

Thinking about doing some case modding while I wait... 😀

Pro 2A has the 686B southbridge which natively supports ATA 100. Voltage adjustment is the same depending upon BIOS version. Pro2A ships with 1.85V as the max, you gotta flash the Pro 2 with the latest BIOS (1.8V w/o flash).

Hee hee... Yeah... I've seen pics of some really nice mods... especially the ones with plexiglass windows and neon lights... 😉 I did get a Dremel for Xmas... 😀

I've been reading up on it and was gonna buy a black case but opted for my old standby Enlight 7237. I can always paint it, which I'm seriously thinking about doing... Just have to decide on a color scheme for the whole thing.

The particular Loctite product you want is the Rear Window Defogger Repair Kit... (Their bolt-tightner product is great as well, but it doesn't conduct electric current very well, so probably wouldn't do a very good job of unlocking your CPU.. 😀)

Murdmath, same company, but totally different product. The defogger repair kit is used to paint an electrically conductive path between objects. In this case, the "laser severed" contacts in the L1 region of an Athlon processor. Some sort of metal in a liquid emulsion, and when the liquid evaporates, it creates a conductive strip.

I upgraded yesterday, nothing as speedy as the others listed, but I took out my Cely300A that ran for 1.5 years @464 (but I had to downclock back to 300 a month ago due to stability problems) and replaced with a Cely466. Swapped out my 15" monitor for a 17" (this one may hurt my keyrate, as UT looks very nice on it 😉), and upgraded the home network from 10BT to 100TX.

Next steps is to upgrade our NT4.0 server box to Win2K Server, setup ICS, a perproxy, and get the rack cows up on Klinux. 😀
