Just finished Rage and I actually enjoyed it

The thing about Rage is at no point did I think it was a stand out game. Graphically its been more than annoying with its blurry textures and poor performance when using Vsync and crossfire together. But I finished it unlike a lot of other games I've played recently.

But at the same time there is something quite satisfying with the combat. The way the mutants move is just lovely, they are much harder to hit than your average FPS game due to the jumping and rolling and it puts emphasis on the different weapons. Once you get the pulse cannon its all you'll ever need though, the moment I got it I bought 1000 rounds and that was it for the enemy.

I didn't think id had pulled it off with this game, but actually its quite innovative in many ways that seem minor but do enhance the game. Well worth playing through. Steam says 14 hours, which is a lot longer than you actually need, I did a lot of racing to max my vehicles which turned out to be very useful for the final mission.

That's about how I feel about the game. Its an updated version of Doom or Quake with a million small innovations and only a pretense of being an RPG or open world. At best there are a few side quests you can ignore. Its like id threw everything they could think of into a run-n-gun and stirred it all up until they got something that worked. Good mindless run-n-gun fun with great animations and driving thrown in. Try the pop rockets and see how fast you can go.

My biggest complaint is that even on nightmare level its too easy to beat. Carmack said they kept the number of monsters mobbing you all at once down so they could get 60fps on consoles. With Doom 4 they're shooting for just 30fps on consoles and intend to add a lot more monsters. Who knows, with the drivers working properly they could create a worthy successor to Ultimate Doom.

I agree. The game was satisfying. I enjoyed the design of the environment and the combat was fun. The guns in id games always have a very satisfying power and feel. I enjoyed letting the mutants run up to a few feet from me before I blasted them with the shotgun straight to the face.

I played Crysis2 just before Rage and gosh... Crysis2 was flat out boring, IMO

Very memorable characters and settings, to boot. I don't regret the $60 preorder I paid for it even though it's now down to $40 on PC already.

i might give it a shot, but i usually don't play FPSs that don't let me customize my character...on that note, bring on Borderlands 2!

How far into Crysis 2 did you play? It's a slow starter, but builds up quite a bit.

I just played Rage and the graphics are by far the best you'll see for along time. It makes Crysis' graphics look outdated.

You don't need to consume ammo for all the mutants. Most are getting dropped by a well placed melee attack. You can try in the sewers.

First Rage thread with a general consensus that I agree with. Surprising.

High wind does not last long,
Nor does heavy rain.
If nature's words do not last
Why should those of man?
Who accepts harmony, becomes harmonious.
Who accepts loss, becomes lost.
Lao Tzu

Too many people expected this game to be things it simply is not. The rest of us appreciate it for what it has to offer.

Waiting for it to go on the holiday sale, hopefully it'll be >$20.

I'm cheap (it's true) but I have enough of a backlog where there's more than enough games I should play/finish (I'm looking at you, PS2 with its awesome games) to last me a good, long time.

Fun game but the ending SUCKED!

Very anti-climatic...

Rage has more problems then I can count, but it still manages to be fun and innovative anyway. The real question is where are they going with this new technology and new additions to a corridor shooter?

Just picked this up for $20 recently and only logged about 6 hours so far. But wow, the graphics are quite impressive and I don't really have a super gaming system. The game plays quite smoothly on my meager little system, and the game pace and style keeps me coming back to want to complete the game. ( I haven't played a single player game to the finish since Quake2).

Rage is awesome. Played it on my GTX 580 and it looked absolutely stunning. Playing it again on my A8-3850...still stunning.

Doom 4 supposedly looks even better, but I really want to see id's remake of the original Quake complete with the classic monsters in a castle. All these steel corridors and monsters with body builder bodies and 20 bug eyes just don't flatter the technology which was made to showcase the artwork.

Rage can look fantastic with SLI AA. Since I cannot use performance SLI mode with it, I use my three GTX 580s to render Rage with SLI AA.

This is with 4X AA in game. Enhanced the Application Setting is set in the NV control panel. SLI 24X and SLI 8X Supersampling on top of the 4X in game setting. Still at 60 FPS.
