Just finished my first build...

Alright, first problem...

The mic's not working? I try it in sound recorder and in ventrilo and there's nothin'... No matter if I put it in the front I/O ports or in the back. The sound works fine in both places--just not the mic.

What could be the problem? I'm pretty sure I have the mic stuff inside all connected correctly...

Second problem:

There's a little icon down on the taskbar and it's one of those "Safely Remove Hardware" icons... When I double-click it, it brings up the window and my hard drive is listed as the hardware to uninstall... Why is that? Did I do something wrong... Or how do I remove that icon so someone doesn't just come up and remove my harddrive??

Sata supports Hotswapping and therefore anything plugged into them gets that eject option. Check recording and play back option in the advanced portion of the Audio settings Mike is probably muted and loudness and boost setting probably need to be changed.

I am sure there is but i A.) don't know how and B.) if you use thumb drives or mp3 players you need that icon to eject them or take a chance of damaging the file system. Had that happen on my 512 mb thumb drive.

On my other computer (one I didn't build), there's an icon like this for removing software... But not an icon for removing one of the hard drives? Are your icon(s) for removing your hard drives?

Again your seeing it because SATA is a Hotswapable connection. The other computer is probably using a regualr IDE connector and won't have it because it isn't a hotswapable connection.

While i am Sure your not going to unplug your HDD drive remeber if you disable it. don't forget to manually eject a thumb drive or MP3 player in expolorer befor unpluging it from your computer.

I thought all windows computers had that icon

Haha have you been living with it all your life? I have SATA and I've never seen it.

Do you have a drive plugged into one of them ? If yes what SP are you using and is a chipset integrated sata or silicon images sata built in.

What?

BTW, with nForce mobos & SATA HDDs, having that safely remove hardware icon is normal (as has already been mentioned).
To get your mic working you need to get into the mic setting & activate it.
