Just finished installing Gentoo on system

I see no os bootloader.

I installed lilo and loaded it up.

ie, emerge lilo

edited /etc/lilo.conf to reflect my settings
ran "lilo" and it said it added "gentoo"

rebooted

computer acts as if there is no harddisk it can recognize.

might anyone be able to assist?

In fdisk there is an option to mark a partition active. If you didn't overwrite the MBR, the default will search for the first active partition and boot that.

hdc is generally the secondary master, is there another disk on hda?
