Well, I know that I am late to the party on that one..... One hell of a game, probably one of the best horror FPShooters that I have played in a while. The atmosphere was excellent, the sound was superb, the story at a high level is rather silly, but it was presented in an excellent way. One of the few FPShooters that did not cause me to lose interest.

I did not encounter a single bug in F.E.A.R. 1 and Creative's Alchemy allowed me to enjoy the horror sound effects in EAX within Windows 7 without incident.

The graphics were good even for today, best shadows that I have witnessed in games thus far.

This game is what Doom 3 should have been.

Now, I hear that Monolith treats the two expansion packs as never happening, on to F.E.A.R. 2 then, once the price drops and patches are issued. Unless this is a situation where playing the sequel will cause ruin to my memories of the first game, but at least Monolith made the sequel. I have not played the expansion packs, likely will not... unless they are on the same level as the original game?

Yes, the game was awesome. It absolutely nailed the feeling of combat and guns nicely. And yes, the graphics look great even today. Sadly the sequel lost a lot of that magic.

I loved the two expansions, and you probably will too if you like the original game. The second expansion in particular is longer than many other FPSes.

The game was definitely amazing. The slow-mo was great when dealing with an AI that was actually good. As for FEAR 2, well I played an hour or so into it and it completely destroyed the good feeling I had after beating FEAR. The sequel just ruins the vibe from the first one, so heads up about that.

I didn't think Doom 3 was that bad. I would probably rank FEAR as being marginally better.

I really liked the A.I. in the original, the game overall was decent, I thought that it started too slowly however, but it's alright, I appreciated it, finished it one time.

The original game was amazing.
The expansions are fun and stupid.
The sequel... do not play the sequel. You'll hate the franchise if you play the sequel. It is very very console and bad. Full of bugs as well.

Remember the day I first played fear. Ti4200 Ocd like crazy, xp1900 amd,Viewsonic 21 CRT. Good times. Little girl almost made my wife pee, she peeked in to see what I was doing and started watching without me knowing and in the part where you are climbing that ladder and that crazy little girl jumps out at you. BOOM the wife screamed and scared the crap out of me.

Yes, great game with very good Weapons/combat. The scary parts were all top notch, but there are huge gaps in the middle where you can forget all about that part of the game. Sometimes the scary bits seemed thrown in almost randomly.

F.E.A.R. 2 suffered form the dreaded "consolitiits" syndrome.
Lower I.Q, smaller enviroments, a gameplay catering to people with ADHD...same way Crysis 2 will differ from Crysis.

Oddly, I started replaying F.E.A.R. again last week. Fun game. I was looking to get the expansions, but Steam & D2D only sell the Game & Expansions bundled. :( Any place I can just buy the expansions?

I just bought it on sale for 9.99. even though i have owned it before, it was in a time when it came on 5 cd's or so....im trying to get my girlfriend to play it in the dark with my headset on =] I really like the AI in the first game as well, and on easy mode, it is fun to just run through the level drop kicking people and having them explode

The second fear is definitely not as good as the first. And it's unfortunate that they ignore the two expansions, especially since the extraction point fits so good with the first game.

I finally beat the single player portion of that game last year (after I had been playing it on and off for 2 years prior) - finally sat down and played it through. Scared the crap out of me at times and kind of pushed my laptop (Core Duo, MR X1600). Unfortunately, I don't think it has much replay value. (whatever.) I definitely enjoyed the original; never bothered getting the sequels/expansions though.

Imo it has major replay value if you liked it the first time.

I found many new stat upgrade hypos on my second playthrough, and I think even a few during my third. There's also other things you missed the first time through that make more sense the second time, like understanding all of the visions, phone messages etc better.

And trying news strategies and weapons to get through certain situations is always fun.

I guess I might give it a try again this summer. I was thinking about building a budget gaming desktop and FEAR would probably be a good thing to test it out with.

My thought was probably just because I'd recognize the places where stuff goes down and it wouldn't be as creepy.

I would for sure if I were you.

I've played all the way through it 4 times, I think, and I enjoyed it every time. Subsequent playthroughs give you more time top relax, absorb, and look around (and make weapons decisions) rather than just trying to get to the end of the plot.

I think if a story is well done it doesn't matter if it's silly. And the plot in FEAR is well done.

Unfortunately, a good plot thread is what missing from the expansions. But if you like the gunplay they're fun as well.

I even really enjoyed Perseus Mandate.

F.E.A.R. 2 was amazing, better than F.E.A.R. Shame that the idiots completely ruined the ending for anyone who hasn't played it when they released that horrible F.3.A.R trailer (did we ever establish that that was really a joke? Surely it wasn't real).
