CT is a classic. So while people may be able to recommend similar games to it, you've set the bar very high by comparing anything with it 🙂. What I mean is, don't expect to find 10 games like CT, because they don't exist, but if you havn't played CT until recently then you most likely havn't played at least 20 other good RPGs.

Favorite RPGs:
Xenogears
Chrono Trigger
Shining Force 2
Final Fantasy 6

Yea, someone mentioned Planescape:Torment. I've never played it, but I know enough to say it isn't anything like a console RPG. It is supposed to be an awesome RPG though and you'd most likely benefit from getting and playing it.

wow what a game. should have tried it long time ago.

the aching feeling of emptiness in my chest is horrible though... always happens after i finish a good game/book

what are some other similar good rpgs? something epic but not totally in some weird magical land of elvish oz or something

Here's a hint. You have not finished it. There are about 30 endings to this game, depending on when you finish the game (you can finish at any time in New Game + by taking a portal directly to Lavos) and who you finish with. Some are halarious 🙂

Secret of Mana rules. Chrono Cross is definately not as good as Chrono Trigger.

Another vote for SoM. This is probably the most underrated RPG on the SNES. It's nice to see that years after when all the gaming mags were doing their top 10 lists it was finally getting serious recognition - placing above Chrono Trigger and FF6 in certain mags.

P.S. SoM is great multiplayer (coop).

Secret of Mana 3 is also a really awesome game. I don't think it was released in the US but they have a translation patch for it. link

You know, I keep on hearing people talk about Planescape: Torment, and I gotta say, I just don't see it. I love console RPGs and PC RPGs, but I just didn't really see anything special about it. I lost interest in it after about 10 hours of play.
I would have to say you should play FF2/FF3. Two gems.

SoM is my favorite SNES game. I recently got into emulation and was surprised to see there was a SoM 2.... now someone is saying there's also a 3?

You know - I just realized something looking at suggestions. When most people give suggestions about SNES rpg's - they generally assume you've already played FF6 and Chrono Trigger - the two big guns.

I just realized that 2nd assumption might not be true for you. If you have never played FF6 - that should def. be your next stop 😉

Also, beware of the version on the Playstation. The load for battles totally kills the expreience.

thanks for the suggestions

i don't mind elves. but i prefer something like ct's blend of sci-fi and fantasy elements and the earth like setting

Whoa, from that description, Final Fantasy 7 is perfect for you. If you've already played it, then you know what I mean.

It's in a Sci-Fi Enviroment (Midgar City and its technology), with fantasy (the Summons and magic), and it definately has earth (The green stuff... you know, the soul or something of the earth)

Its good stuff, you'll like it.

Buuut, if you've played FF7, go for 8, then 9.
