wow what a game. should have tried it long time ago.

the aching feeling of emptiness in my chest is horrible though... always happens after i finish a good game/book

what are some other similar good rpgs? something epic but not totally in some weird magical land of elvish oz or something

secret of Mana. Not really the same type of game, but the main charachter looks the same as the one in Chrono Trigger.

It is a good game.

Planescape: Torment is the best RPG I've ever played. edit: In fact, it's the best game I've ever played.

It is a D&D based game though, so it has "elves" and stuff.

thanks for the suggestions

i don't mind elves. but i prefer something like ct's blend of sci-fi and fantasy elements and the earth like setting

SNES had some good epic games that followed an interesting story line. Game for that system that I had fun playing, enjoying their "epic" storyline, were SoulBlazer, Illusion of Gaia, Secret of Mana, FFII, and FFIII.

Have you ever played arcanum? It has elves and orcs and whatnot, but it is in somewhat modern times.

I really enjoyed that game, but everyone I know hated it.

nope. i'll look into it.

i haven't played that many rpgs

I'm not quite sure of the line you are setting up between "weird magical land of elvish oz" and "earth line setting." ChronoTrigger had monsters, and magic. Maybe no elves, but it did have a frog. When does an RPG become an elvish land you dislike?

it's sort of a blurry line heh. i don't like the type of settings in d&d, LOTR etc. but CT, star wars etc i'm fine with. as long as there is something i can "connect" with (like modern/sci-fi elements) i enjoy it more

Did you finish the game through several times? You can start a new game+ and have all your old stats and items with you. Makes it pretty fun. Also, there are multiple endings so you might want to work on that too.

Well, Planescape: Torment is D&D, but it isn't your normal D&D. It is set in Planescape which is REALLY weird. Not your normal castles and dungeons.

You should check it out.

sounds interesting, i'll check it out. i've enjoyed d&d type games like NWN anyway

ah... sci-fi elements. i always felt that CT has limited amounts of sci-fi, except for the time travel element. it was kind of a morph of the two, fantasy and sci-fi, really. i've never been a fan of d&d either (i actually don't like it at all), but ive enjoyed fantasy games like secret of mana.

Oh, I just thought of something you might like. Check out fallout, fallout 2 and fallout tactics. They are fun, its like an RPG set in a post apocalyptic world.

but time travel is the basic idea behind the game 🙂 i dont necessarily want pure sci-fi. the combination of fantasy and sci-fi is pretty interesting

oh yeah i forgot about those. had been meaning to try them. thanks.

ff 6 > chrono trigger 😉

ah the super nintendo -- bringing with it the most glorious era of console gaming

Maybe I overlooked, but I'm surprised no one has mentioned the sequel to Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross. Might as well continue the story!

Hah, another sucker.

I just started playing this game on Sunday and it was the worst gaming mistake I've made in quite awhile. I've been tired at work for the past 3 days. 🙁

I think I may have played it through once when it came out, or at least part of the game, because some of the elements seem vaguely familiar. But, I don't really 'remember' anything so I'm sticking with this crack-rock game.

The other SNES games that have been suggested to me are : Earthbound and E.V.O. I think there was also something called Tales of Phantasia and Star Ocean suggested but those may be on a different system.

Here's to XBOX modding!
