This movie is legit fvcked up ****** and I'm not even sure if I liked it or not.

Some pretty good acting (Brando is amazing in his monologues) and some overall just messed up stuff. Kind of confusing, but not too hard to tie together.

Only downer is that I thought it was really, really slow.

Meh.

hasn't this been out for forever?

lmao at "no spoilers" It's been out since before most of the people here were born... 1979? 1980? Someplace around there.

Anyway, if you kinda liked the movie and you enjoy reading, you might enjoy the short Novel (only a 100 pages or so) "Heart of Darkness" by Joseph Conrad. Rather than based in Vietnam, the book is based on trade in Africa while it was under British rule.

Not unless you watched the redux, which has many added scenes.
I enjoyed apocalypse now.. It feels like one of those movies that can portray an event by feeling rather than storytelling. Kubrick, for example, is really good with this.

Dudes, it is without a doubt the best movie ever made. And it's not slow, it's perfect.
Agreed. My favorite movie of all time.

Well, not my favorite of ALL time, but it is way, way up there. I saw it at my college's cinema and was amazed. Went back a year later when they showed Redux. Even better!

Is that the one where Slim Pickins rides the bomb all the way down?

I think that's Dr Strangelove

Edit: I enjoyed Heart of Darkness, but on first viewing of Apocalypse Now I elected to watch the full, uncut 3 and some hours version. I couldn't wait for it to end.

I think the original movie and Hearts of Darkness (the documentary about the making of AN) are brilliant. I frankly felt AN Redux was incredibly self-indulgent, to the point of becoming boring. Just too much . . .

'heart of darkness' is the novel upon which 'apoc now' was based.

both sucked.

Hearts of Darkness however is what he said it is. Notice the plural?
