*fingers crossed*

I have a better chance of
  • quitting Hot Deals cold turkey
  • buying a domestic car
  • endorsing Subway over Quizno's
  • never using a credit card again

than willing the freakin' lottery but it's worth a shot!

I just learned about PowerBall's POWERPLAY option :p

Bah, more than 50 people in my office are pooled in at $20 bucks each. There was a joke running around that the company would close if we won because the principals bought in as well. :p

We figure after-tax winnings of roughly $3 million each.

*crosses fingers*

Office pools are a good idea but a head ache to manage and find the RIGHT person who is trustworthy.

I remember a few years ago, a bunch of auto mechanics from the midwest pooled their money together and won big.

Nah... we do this everytime the Powerball gets big. We've actually been buying $20 bucks each for the past week or so as the jackpot's been growing, and the small winnings for the odd couple of number matches have been going back into the pool. It's all accounted for and everyone who buys in gets copies of all the tickets. We all get along pretty well here I would say...

No becuase your lottery numbers are the same however if you win .... your winnings are MULTIPLIED BY THE POWERPLAY's x.

So let's say you pay $2 for 1 PowerBall PowerPlay ticket.

If you win $10,000 and your PowerPlay x factor is 3 you win $10,000 x 3 (or x) = $30,000 winnings :)

You'd be surprised what a jackpot can do to a group of people though

I understand that. But say your going to spend a set amount of money. Would it be better to get twice as many entries, or get 2-5x the amount of money from the smaller winnings? There should be some way to mathematically figure out which is a better value. :)

My family dropped $20 on tickets too - my parents got a ticket for each of us, and I bought one myself. Like Rossman said, the odds are abysmal, so I'm keeping my goals a little lower - I'll settle for the $100k :p I'd go out and buy a new truck, help my girlfriend with whatever she needs to stay here in St. Louis, and then stick the rest in the bank.
