Because they are idiots. It's the only reason why apple is still in business. If people are stupid enough to fall for the hype I think that they deserve to get ripped off.

Hah, yes, you are entirely correct. A company like apple does not make superior products, but instead is solely based on hype.

Get real man - have you ever even used a Mac? And I don't mean for 5 minutes.

I will be the first to admit they are very expensive, but you get what you pay for.

you mean a PC with the same spec won't run photoshop as well as the mac at half the price? doubtful.

For me the hardware is only half of the value of the Mac, if even. The real value is in the O/S, as Leopard runs much faster than any Windows box I've had, and is far more stable. Past this, the actual experience of running a Mac is far nicer than running Windows, from scalability to file management to lack of bloat-ware. It's also particularly good for Graphics based applications, which makes me biased towards them to begin with.

I also use the entire Adobe suite including Bridge, when I'm preparing a half-gig file to go to press, I don't want that to go near a windows machine.

EDIT

This isn't to say that windows machines are not good, I develop quite a bit on my windows laptop which in itself is pretty powerful, 3gigs dualcore intel, they are just stronger at different things.

Saying apple products are simply hype, that is what is absurd.

Did you mean to type "Just dropped $2,400..."?

It really doesn't matter anyway since he (his mom) didn't actually spend much of anything yet.

im buying the new macbook pro (whenever they come out) and im ready to drop $2500 on it as well. i know its overpriced, but all the macs ive used/owned have been extremely high quality compared to the toshibas/dells/hp's that ive owned. i'd rather pay for quality and peace of mind (applecare is pretty darn good). yes there are sub 1k notebooks with better graphics, cpu, and whatnot, and obviously there is osx86, but the design is simply awesome and again, you get what you pay for. i use both pcs and macs, and i dont favor one or the other. i just prefer apple laptops because they can do both pretty well without any fiddling.

I will say this, my old macbook had issues with the case cracking on the edge. I know others who macbooks and most of them had the same issue. This is a known issue. I hope the pro is built better so it won't suffer from this.

Good call on doing a little research before you dropped $2400..

heh.

Also got 3 months no interest.

You financed a macbook?

lol...this guy is a winner.

And you bought HD-DVD's. =/

Seriously though, you generalize an entire segment of people and insult them with no evidence to back yourself up.

It's half the price, and it's better in almost every regard. I win. I could've spent a couple hundred more and totally raped any MacBook Pro, but that would be a waste of money.

Half the battery life of a Macbook Pro, not an LED screen, a pound heavier than the MBP, no OSX, worse CPU, etc.

You may not find these things to be benefits. That's why you didn't buy a MBP and bought the Asus instead. Yes, in terms of GPU and price, the Asus wins. And if your priority is a gaming laptop on a budget, the Asus is great. Of course, you should have gotten the Gateway w/ the 9800GT for the same price, but hey, whatever.

I'm just saying you're wrong in saying the Asus is better in "almost every regard". You have to add the "for me" qualifier. And no, calling people "idiots" won't make your opinion count for more.

I'm still shopping for that dream $400 laptop from CC. I just spent my spare cash buying 3 PSP's so I can play ad-hoc with friends/family.

now I find out there is a better one coming out and I'm angry.

Yeah, a price comparison to other identically equipped laptops, apparently.

£1300 for the 15" I couldn't justify paying for as I barely use a laptop. I went for the MB for £699 instead , still getting use to Mac OS.

I can not understand why anyone would spend more than $1,200 on a laptop. Personally I would just buy a ~$700 laptop every other year instead of dropping $2400 right now. Upgrades come so fast it only takes about 18 months and your laptop, which is painful to impossible to upgrade, becomes outdated.

The title of this thread reminds me why most mac people are cunts. Why is the price relevant? Because everyone brags about the price of their retarded accessories like women do about the price of their retarded hangbags.

A macbook pro is a good investment imho. All the power of unix in a very well built notebook. Not to mention a nice UI and access to some games. I bought my first mac a few months back (after years of using linux and some windows) and have found it well worth the cost. I plan to buy another mac (macpro) this year as well as getting my wife a macbook to replace her aging ibm.
