Just doesn't seem to work...

I have a 3com 905b nic card and from what I can tell it is installed correctly and running. But just doesn't seem to work when I hook up the cable line to it. Are there any computer settings I need to change when setting this stuff up? Thanks.

Are you hooking it up directrly to the cable modem? If so, are you using a cross over cable? Are you trying to share your cable modem? Do you need to name your machine something specificly in order for your cable modem to assign you an ip address?

the actual modem is upstairs, I have a cable running off of it, its not shared with anyone, though 2 other computers run off of the cable modem itself. I am on it now with my old computer and I am trying to just switch it over to the new one. I have the system name right. I just used the same one I have on here. thanks for your help.
