Just did a quick audit of how many 1GB sticks of memory I have in my office

That's 21 still sealed. And those are just the desktop memory, I also have four so-dimm.

I had been buying them with abandon whenever I could snag them for under $10 each. Some nice stuff in there too, dominators and OCZ GoldRev2 and a ton of that HP Micron stuff.

Hmmm... sounds like you are exactly halfway to understanding the meaning of life, the universe, and our very existence.

its only depreciating NOW. Give like two years and the prices will go back up. It's like trying to go buy DDR or SDRAM now. There is such production of it, that it costs a crazy amount of money (for what it is). And in two years, you think everyone is going to be moved on to DDR3 or whatever is the uber-cheap at the time? No way. As long as they stay sealed, it should pay him back 2 or 3 fold in time.

Actually, he could be right. I recently sold 2GB of used DDR400 for $70 shipped and 1GB of DDR2-667 for $15 shipped. In 2 years he might be able to get $700 for those 21 sticks of RAM. Then again he might not.

you know what......for some reason I thought he was talking about thumb drives not RAM. Rare ram will probably have value for sustaining legacy systems years down the road.
