Download the drivers off of ATI's website and execute the file, don't worry about trying to install VGA drivers first.

That is what told me I had to have the VGA installed...the ATi drivers wont install without a vga driver being installed 1st. .

Get DirectX 9.0C (if you install Service Pack 2, that covers that) and install your motherboard's chipset drivers, reboot, then try for your video drivers.

I installed latest DX9, Installed mobo drivers....Now I am getting the error of " inf error, video driver not found" This is in the ATi setup. Then it goes to "try and set up your display adapter with a standard vga driver befor trying to run standard setup".

Do you have .NET installed too? If not, hit Windows Update for that, reboot, then go back to Windows Update for a patch for .NET and reboot again.

man how hard is it?

1) go to ATI site
2) download latest video driver
3) follow instructions and install, NOT from device manager. just open the actual downloaded driver itself

done!

Seems to be very hard...doesnt it

I DO NOT try to install from device manager...That is one of the ways I was trying to get around it. No matter how I try and install the drivers I get the error.

1) mobo drivers
2) video drivers
3) misc PCI drivers
4) then programs and crap like that

Yeah, I installed all of my mobo drivers (I always do this 1st) Then DX9....then go about setting up everything else. I have never had this happen before...I am lost...

This is the 2nd install. =(

The thing that bugs me is that "found new hardware" pops up, this is for the vga. I hit install software and it finds nothing to install, even if I choose what to install..."display adapters" it still wont do it.. well it will, but the drivers are bad when I go to control pan.

So both times of set up I have done the same thing. Install mobo drivers, then DX9. I then download ATi drivers and run through the setup...I get the error. SOOOO BUGGYYY!!!

Um, after Reinstall of Windows: Install Chipset drivers etc. Then install the Catalyst Drivers.

Why do you need DX9? Never heard of needing that for installing drivers. Ignore all of the window's Found New Hardware

have tried other drivers? Like Omega? If both don't work, then its something wrong with your Windows INstallation CD or just try reinstalling again.

I just install DX9 to get it done, it is on the disk.
I always do ignore the found new hardware.

Omegas do the same as the ATi drivers.

It is buggy, though...I even go onto the MSI disk, find the VGA drivers and try to install the controller, as it is also showing corupt in divce man. I get the error that wizard can not find the software...grrrr.

I use this same disk with every format and have never had this happen, I wonder why I am now having the problem.

I did just get a new mobo, do you guys think this could have something to do with it?

Wait, what VGA drivers from the MSI disk? I'm pretty sure all you need from that is your Chipset, LAN, audio and whatever other peripheral stuff you got (unless you got integrated video).

Did you install, then update, the .NET framework? It is required for the Catalyst Control Center.

MSI disk...just the Nforce vga controller. I tried to update it, it wont. Just something else I tried with no luck. I just do the normal setup from the mobo setup disk.

I installed framework, but I am not worried about controller center, as I cant even install vid drivers...even after install framework.

Guess I will reinstall Xp again. :(

As far as I know, standard VGA drivers should have been installed by Windows XP. But try mechBgon, prolly knows what hes talking about lot more than me :)

Most people would agree that the process usually goes like:
Format
Install XP
Chipset/Audio/Lan etc
Graphics.

Theres not much else to it, like standard VGA drivers that you seem to be missing/corrupted.
