I did not have the ability to adjsut res.

That is how I did it..
Format
Install XP
Chipset/Audio/Lan etc
Graphics.
(that is how I always do it) I format often due to upgrades and vid card tweaking type crap. As I said, I have never had this happen and I do this all of the time. This is something new...and sucky

I also thought the setup installs VGA drivers auto.

I did the format and reinstall of XP. I have to do anything. Should I dl those latest unified drivers, or go off the mobo disk 1st?

I cant help but think it is something else, like the mobo. But that makes no sense..I do not get it. Hope it works this time.

I would go like this:
  • unplug network/power-down wireless access point for isolation
  • Install WinXP
  • Install Service Pack 2 from a CD if it isn't already integrated (this gets you DX9.0C too) and reboot
  • Install the latest nVidia chipset drivers and reboot
  • Install antivirus software, ensure that the Windows Firewall is enabled, enable DEP for all software, set strong passwords on all Admin-class accounts, then plug in network or power up the wireless access point
  • Update antivirus software
  • Hit Windows Update and get patches, including the .NET Framework, and reboot
  • Hit Windows Update again for the next round of patches, including the update for the .NET Framework you just installed, reboot
  • Now install your ATI video drivers.
  • Install Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer and run a check :)

Well I did the drivers off of the disk..ethernet etc. Then went and got the latest Nforce drivers. After the install I went and got the ATi drivers.

Upon install this time I am told "Setup was unable to find components to be installed on your current hardware or software configuration. Please make sure you have the req hardware or software".

My hell!

Did you have the .NET framework installed at that time? (edit: and DX9.0C?)

This is an odd one..I took put he XT and put in an old Ti4200. The cmpt saw it and installed it, no more yellow icons on the vid controller. I then took out the Ti and put back in the XT...yellow icons again. I wonder if my card could be whacked. Uggghhh..this is a new card and just got back from mods. It worked fine when I 1st installed it. But I did have a Ti in its palce and just used driver cleaner. The scores I was getting were not correct, as to why the format. Ths blows...

OK..check this out now. I put in a 6600GT. It needs to have its own plug, just as the XT. It is doing the exact same thing as the XT...it is not recognized.

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM>............coud this be a psu issue I wonder, or maybe the plug I am using is bad..same plug molex I used for the XT.

The Ti did not need any additional power and was recognized just fine.

The 6600GT installed just fine. Switched the molex and all, but the XT still wont install. :(
