I was cruising through the latest acemcmac thread and many of you seem to think that the level is "BS" and you can drive fine over the limit. Well if you drive fine, then why do you care so much about it, it is not like you are going to be swerving or anything that would get you pulled over? Let them collect all the money they want on people who are driving dangerously.

Hell I speed like crazy, but driving over .1 or .08 or whatever it is, is just stupid IMO.

I just want to discuss why someone would need to drive home that intoxicated.

Sure you can say MAD is a propaganda group, etc etc...

Just curious, please try and keep it civil?

I can tell you that at that level of drunkeness I do not feel as though my motor skills or reasoning abilities have been affected. HOWEVER extensive research has shown that even at that level of drunkeness there is a marked drop in response time, even if you don't think it is there it almsot certainlly is.

The limits are BS in that some people with a .05 shouldn't be allow to operate any machine and yet others who are alcoholics seem to be unaffected at higher levels.

Plus, at my age in NY, anything over .02 is arrestable for myself (Zero-Tolerance for under 21).

I think the issue that came up in the thread was DUI laws, which just act as cash cows for police departments since you can be under the DWI limit of .08, but still get hit with a DUI.

The most BS of them all are the minor BAC laws. As a 20 year old, if I get pulled over after taking a sip of beer I am guilty of DUI. Anything above 0.01 and you go to jail. Fscking ridiculous. So I guess I should just let my drunk 21 year old friends drive themselves home. Yea.. way to go government.

Of course everyone thinks they can. Thats what alcohol does, it turns everyone into Superman. You can do everything better drunk - or at least you think you do.

Its kind of a BS thing. I know people who can have one beer and be totally off their rocker. Their BAC cant be over.08. I can have acouple beers and feel fine(if i dont chug them or anything...just a social bar paste) and yet I am probably over the limit. At that point the only thing I worry about driving home is a check point or getting a ticket for speeding.

Just like ALL things that are legislated there has to be a convict limit. In the case of intoxication, "limit" is arbitrarily set. Just like age of consent, age of adulthood, or lifer post count. Those that determine the rules determine the arbitrary cut off. It has no basis in logic, rules, or experience. Its arbitrary. Speed limit is just as arbitrarily set. Some, like you, can speed safely at higher than arbitrary limits. Some function regularly at higher than arbitrary limits of "intoxication." BAC is NOT a measure of impairment. Its a measure of how much alcohol one has in their system. Ultimately rules/limits are set to control the general populous. Speeding doesnt have the "evil" stigma of alcohol or sex so enjoy your speeding and your higher than thou attitude.

My problem is that the laws unfairly criminalize the average citizen. I'm pretty sure that just about everyone has broken the law because of tightened laws in terms of DUI -- .08 is very, very low. I the other problem that I have with the law is that it doesn't even help cut down on the people who are a true danger on the road -- the drunk driver that does it habitually and with a very high BAC. A huge percentage of deaths involve these types of drivers. Why not figure out a way to get those people off the road instead of turning the average citizen into a criminal.

You are absolutely correct. In this context its like setting the speed limit to < 20 mph for everyone and every road.
