I understand the difference between the two, but I am wondering why the 2500 beats the 2500k

Not a big difference but I didn't expect to see any difference or if there was I expected it to be the other way around.

Well, it will be the other way around once you take advantage of the unlocked multiplier... but yeah, what's causing the difference at the base clock speed?

Def go for the 2500k, it's not much more expensive and allows for the possibility of easy OCs :D

The 2500 supports VT-d (Virtualization Technology for Directed I/O) and TXT (Trusted Execution Technology) + HD 2000 graphics, wherein the 2500K does not, but has HD 3000 graphics and of course the unlocked multiplier.

What is VT-d and TXT? Knock yourself out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trusted_Execution_Technology

In a nutshell, it's geared more toward businesses (who generally won't overclock, nor care about on-die graphics performance).
