How much more in electricity bills would you guys estimate if one was to leave a computer on 24/7 for rc5 cracking.

Plez, no discussions on the benefits of leaving your computer on all the time (i.e. thermal stresses) hee hee :)

Muchos gracias :)

Depends on how much your electricity costs, at $.11/kwh a box runs about $6/month, double that if you leave the monitor on.

I know my school is raising room and board by $275 next year due to rising elctricity costs. I guess this is fine because in the summer I plan to make full (24/7@max power) use of the AC. Between that and my computers I think my housing price will not be that bad compared to off campus housing just in electricity savings.

iceliquid,
In cold weather, if you're heating your building, it makes less of a difference.
In hot weater, if you're cooling your building, it makes more of a difference.

iceliquid: What Curt Oien said is correct. I have 9 systems (6.2 GHz) in my apartment and they create a lot of heat. I have the bedroom window cracked and the A/C on with the outside temp dropping into the 30's. So, I have no heating cost! :):D BUT, I am very concerned about warm weather moving in. Might have to reduce the speed on some of these boxes as all but one is OC'ed. :(

Thanks guys for your input. And the heating in the winter and cooling in the summer was something I hadn't consider since I just moved to a different climate where there are more summer-winter extremes then where I use to live.

RC-5 away!! :D

<< Georgia? >>

My home is in GA, where I have 4 boxes crunching, but the boxes I was concerned about are in my Corporate Apartment in Shreveport, LA (about 180 miles east of Dallas). It gets hotter here than in Atlanta, but not by much.
