we hit 30C again today and the humidex was 40C.

A cold front is slowly making its way through the area and that should drop us down to normal temps.

It's been lovely here most of the last 6 weeks. Mostly mid 70's to low 80's, humidity not bad. Some thunderstorms. Some of the best run of spring weather recently

The beautiful weather continues. High 80's tomorrow, then 5 days of 70's and mid 80's weather.

At the weather station about 2 blocks from my house, a bit over 5.5" of rain in May. Average is about 1.75".
Part of town got over 7.5".

65 today and a bit breezy in Northern NJ, so light hoodie weather.

The weekend will be in the 70's. Monday will be low 80's. Partly cloudy each day.

Monday doing a 30+ mile bike ride in NYC so perfect weather for that.

84, today, may get below 60 tonight for the first time in weeks, then back to the blast furnace by Wednesday ... 100s or so.

We still haven't hit it though, topping out at 98 so far.

45 degrees celsius in the afternoon. Have to walk around 15 minutes daily trying to keep myself in the shade (not easy as some places don't have any) to make it to my shift at 1 P.M.

Makes me wish I was more of an early morning type of person.

But humidity isn't so bad so heat index is only 100F = 38C. Much better than when it was 105F = 41C with dewpoint 66F and heat index 111F = 44C a while back when the heat dome was centered NW of us.

I knew the south was hot and humid in the summer but I didn't know how bad. I had an ex who grew up in Austin but lived in NYC for 11 years - she moved back to Austin during Covid and we kept in touch a little bit. She had bought a nice bike when we were together and we did a couple long rides in the city earlier in the summer. She moved to Austin mid summer. A couple months later I asked her if she'd done some rides. She said - well the area she lived was hilly, but also, you don't do much outdoor stuff in Austin in the summer during the day cause the heat is too intense. At least for her.

Nearly July and had to close all the windows this morning because it was in the mid-40's (f) and very windy (took down a big tree in my neighbors yard yesterday) .... this weather pattern bringing in cool air off the North Atlantic the last few days is really unusual.

Split right in half during a strong wind-gust with ZERO warning .... the part that broke was about 10 feet away from where I lay my head @ night too! (missed our house by MAYBE 2 feet!)

I was also thinking the splitting half part would be more likely since the roots of a typical tree run pretty deep. But even then, splitting in half is also crazy. I bet the wind-gust was strong enough to lift someone off their feet. I experienced that for a few seconds in 2016. Winds were so strong that it took every joule of energy in my body to walk against it and the traffic poles were swaying fiercely. Really bad idea to be outside in such conditions.

Fortunately I was gaming on my PC on the other side of the house when it fell!

This house was built in the late 1890's when they had plenty of old-growth wood to use building it... point being that it's extremely strong so unless the tree fell through the window (possible!) I most likely would have been just fine.

My handicapped downstairs neighbor however likes to stand outside and smoke cigarettes right in the spot where the tree landed... it would have 100% have KO'ed him had he been out there!
