Just chipped a tooth while chewing on a straw

I was just chewing on a normal straw, a rather sizeable piece of my tooth broke off. Ridiculous. I brush twice a day and even floss when I think I need it. This is insane. This is not the first tooth of mine that's cracked like that. Does this happen to anyone else? Does anyone know how this happens? Anyone know how to prevent it?

Damn! That's scary... did you have fluoride rinses when you were growing up? I did, and I am 30 now and don't have a single cavity.

You ask your dentist this question yet??

That sucks, I have chipped my front tooth twice now, once repaired and then chipped it again in my sleep :(

Some people have weaker teeth than others. My mom has really weak teeth, which both of my sisters inherited, whereas I got my father's stronger ones and have never had a single cavity. Luck o' the draw, mate.

I was born with really weak teeth. Ameliosantisis imperfecta I think is what its called. Means thin enamel. I chipped a tooth on a gummy worm once...

I don't think you can prevent it. The older I get the more my teeth break.

Even with insurance it's an expensive proposition.

Flossing Regularly + Brushing twice a day + mouthwash + visiting the dentist every 6 months - fellatio = healthy teeth.

Yep, but they still can break/fracture.

fellatio is bad for your teeth?

I want to keep my teeth in perfect condition so should I tell my woman to stop giving me BJ's?

Some might also need to be told sucking your thumb is bad.

I just broke a tooth eating a Starburst a week or so ago. Luckily (and probably because of) it's the one I'm waiting to get a crown put on when the new year starts and it'll be covered by insurance. So the outer side of my tooth is gone, and jagged, with the filling from the root canal exposed. Hurts to put pressure on which is weird since the nerve is gone.

If it gets screwed up, oh well, I'll have it pulled. My brothers and sister and I all have tooth problems. Even when we've done well with caring for them, we get cavities. My sister is only 34 and had to have all her teeth pulled, wears full dentures now.

I think he meant auto-fellatio ;)
But then again, that forbes magazine said semen contained minerals that helped make your teeth stronger.

Take a magnesium supplement daily; calcium will pass right through your body without it.

Stop drinking soda(regular or diet). They are highly acidic(phosphoric acid) and leech calcium out of your teeth and bones, right through your kidneys into your urine.
