Just checking before I purchase...

Okay, I'm in the planning phase of my new rig and I want to be sure I've got everything right before I make the purchases. I've never built my own before, so here goes:
Asus P4B266
512MB Crucial PC2100 DDR RAM
Western Digital 80 GB 7200 RPM HDD (already have)
TDK 24x/10x/40x CDR (already have)
Lite-on 16x/40x DVD (already have)
Floppy and Zip (yeah yeah, already have)
Pentium 4 1.6A or 1.8A, overclocked (see question below)
Power Supply (see question below)

Now, is there much difference in the end result in overclocking a P4 1.6A and a 1.8A? I haven't seen much of a benefit of going for the 1.8A. Any thoughts?

Also, would a 300W PSU be enough for this system? I'm pretty sure it would be.

Thanks in advance for the help. I'm a wee bit nervous putting this together.

Both the 1.6A & the 1.8A have 512K cache.

If both CPUs overclocked to the exact same end frequency, the 1.6A would be faster (due to the higher FSB required to attain the end frequency). The disadvantage, of course, is that the higher the FSB the more the rest of your system is forced out of spec. With today's hardware, though, I'd grab the 1.6A & push for the higher FSB.

mornin' bump

Viper,
Thanks for the input. (I edited my original post to reflect that cache issue, doh!)

Any thoughts on the other issue (PSU)?

have you considered asus p4s333 instead of p4b266?

i was debating between the two... and it seemed like a better mobo for less money.

and as for memory...
i too am using pc2100 512mb from crucial.
but if i had to do everything all over... i'd go with kingmax pc2700 ddr333.
