Just checked out the Samsung 970p 19'' which has gotten alot of praise especially from gamers. It was at local sams club.

And to my surprise it looked...

Terrible.

The contrast on this this is just awful. I tried adjusting it didn't seem to help. They had a few other samsung models, and none of them looked good except the 21'' - forget the model number that one actually looked nice but has a higher responce time. It also seemed to have better controls but I didnt look at it long because the bad responce time scares me.

I am starting to take that contrast ratio rating with a HUGE grain of salt.

**Note... Many of you said good things about this monitor so I am not ruling out the possibility that it was just a bad floor model, or I just couldnt get the settings right. But I Had 2 people here at work HIGHLY recommend to stay away from them and go with that Viewsonic despite the slightly higher responce time - and its still good 8ms**

Granted, they didnt have any games I could test it on, and I trust what people are saying about it being fast and not having ghosting issues but.... hell.... Id rather go for a Beautiful LCD like the Viewsonic 930b ( i think that # ) and deal with some minor ghosting issues.

Guess my HUNT for my new LCD continues, glad I checked one out... because I was very close to ordering.

the had 5 different ones there, the only one that looked good was the 20''. I think this might of been the 204B but I am not sure.

I played with the 970p settings for a while, and what I think may have been the 204B for a couple minutes. I didnt play with the others. The 204b looked much nicer and had an "auto-adjust" feature. Checking online now, the 204B has a 5 ms responce time ( gray to gray I assume ). I thought the model on display was 12ms, so may have been a different one.

After I spent 15 minutes playing with the 970P, the wife was bugging me to move on :(

Stumben2: I have the VP930b, and it's really not all that beautiful either in some aspects (won't input 720p, has electronics issue that affects noise, sluggish OSD, annoying input-changing messages, etc). ViewSonic's support is also terrible. I had gotten it because it was cheaper, but you get what you pay for.

But contrast/photo reproduction is stunning. Response time is good in most transitions. Notwithstanding I would have thought the 970P would be quite a bit better. The 970P was tested with a higher contrast than the VP930b was. If you think the 204B has higher contrast than the 970P, I'm sure you did get a bad batch.
