I didn't want to bump the Square Steam week sale thread, so I started this one.

so...My 360 gamepad arrived yesterday. I popped it in, downloaded and installed drivers (Win7 64bit) and....JC2 does not recognize the pad, at all.

Darksiders recognizes it. I haven't tried other games, yet. I had the x360 ce emulator, which I uninstalled and CCleaner to remove remnants. Those files were in the JC2 folder, so I just pulled them out of there and deleted. (They were originally in the Darksiders folder, I moved them over to JC2 when I got that--so taking them out of Darksiders hadn't affected that game in any way.)

It appears that there are various issues concerning JC2, steam, and the x360 game pad. This one is wired, btw. People have suggested downloading the demo, playing that and saving a game. Then replacing that saved game name (from demo) with a name for the save file in the complete game, as the demo has no problems. Well, steam won't let me download the demo b/c I have hte full game. the assholes.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled JC2, no fix. uninstalled and re-installed the gamepad. Nothing. Took it off the steam cloud, nothing. I've deleted multiple JC2 save files (I only ever had one), but the fucker keeps remaking the save file when I reload the game--WTF? WHAT KIND OF DEVILRY IS THIS???

For must people, it seems to be wonky button mapping from time to time. For me, it just does not recognize this gamepad.

grr..............

I used the controller from my 360 with a PC wireless receiver - there's a couple games that have trouble with the wireless version but not the wired (Assassins Creed I believe is one). In these cases it's an easy fix to just edit an .ini file to force the game to recognize it as a 360 controller.

No idea what the issue you're having is, though. My controller worked from the get go with JC2. I just used the universal drivers Windows7 installed when I plugged my controller in (using the 360 USB charge pack).

Good luck, probably won't be too tough to fix though. Good luck!

thats weird, JC2 recognizes my PS3 controller disguised as a 360 controller by MotionJoy. Maybe you should give it a try.

I believe I had my controller working in the JC2 demo and then it didn't work in the full game until I deleted the entire saved game folder in the My Documents area. Try giving that a shot? (rename it instead of delete or something)

man, I mainly bought this gamepad just so I could play this one. :( (my older saitek has weird and useless button placement for contemporary games)

I still want to steer clear of the motionjoy or other emulators with the PS3 controller b/c of some complaints that it nooodled around with the gamepad's own firmware. or something like that.

Ravenseal, could you point me in the direction of the proper .ini file?

I might give that a try.

Alternatively, is there some way to download the demos if you already have the game? It wouldn't let me when installed, then I deleted and went back to the store, it let me download demo...but of course it was the actual game that it downloaded. :(

ah, yeah, maybe I should delete the entire folder. damn thing kept retrieving that save after deleting it somehow.

:hmm:

Create a new Steam account, login to that, then download the demo and run the demo on that account.

hmm, seems people were having problems using 64bit emulators for non-360 controllers, but the 32 bit worked. Maybe I should force install 32 bit drivers for teh gamepad?

I also let windows install on its own (for the second install of the gamepad)

I never even had to download any drivers for my 360 controller but I know some people have had to, so no idea what the issue with that is. :\

I haven't had any problems with any games with the 360 controller. Plugged it right in and it worked with JC2 but I hated playing with it so I went back to KB/M.

I was considering purchasing a 360 controller to play JC2 as some parts were kinda difficult to get all the buttons (keys) pressed and aimed properly.

Would it really be worth the money and/or the potential hassle to do so?

I do have to say, I think I paid 5 or 10 bucks for JC2 during the Christmas sale and the game itself was definitely worth it for that price.

Just for one game no since you're probably going to spend ~$30 minimum on a decent controller but if you know you're going to use it for other games then definitely go for it.

still not working. :(

dickscarf is a new steam member/account, but his downloading of the demo and copying/renaming/deleting of files did not work.

it still seems that controller not working at all is kind of odd--if I plug it in after the game starts, it does ask me to "press the play button" on the main load screen, instead of "enter" (when it wants KB/M). but, no response. no button on the 360 pad registers. tapping enter on the keyboard switches the request to "press enter," and I can navigate with the KB after that.

So it sees a gamepad, sometimes, it just doesn't want to play nice, the fucking bastard.

the demo works fine. completely fine. no problem with 360 gamepad whatsoever. (is that not ridiculous?)

anyway, I've noticed that nVidia is plastered everywhere on the load screens for this game. all over the fucking place. So I'm starting to wonder if my PhenomII + 5850 is causing some hick-ups with the gamepad.

again, the crappy Saitek pad worked--through the x360 emulator, but the buttons are shitty orientation.

this really makes no damn sense.

I was relegated to playing Darksiders (AMD plastered all over the place, and no problems. hmmmm), and I'm yet to be convinced that that game is worth more than 5 or 6 hours of my time.

Just Cause 2 has Steam cloud support (this is what the little cloud icon in the library means). Meaning that they've uploaded your savegame onto the Steam servers, and every time you delete it, Steam is redownloading it so that you can play your previous game.

You can disable this in the properties by right clicking on a game (at least in list view). It should be on the updates tab.

Unfortunately, I have no idea whatsoever about the gamepad problems.

I use a wireless 360 pad/receiver and have no problems with the game whatsoever. The problem with editing the .ini in most games to get the gamepad to work is that you'll lose rumble support.

Yeah, I've had cloud support disabled. I'm an idiot though, it wasn't recreating my deleted file--it just makes a new one as soon as you load it up--if there is nothing there.

That's how the demo save file trick has worked for some people (not me). You can't save with the demo, but it creates that setting file just for starting it.

I guess this is never going to work for me. It's probably a hardware thing.

that's weird. i felt that the gamepad integration was the best i have seen of any game. i was able to flawlessly switch between my controller for vehicles and keyboard/mouse for FPSing and never had a glitch. the on screen key commands even switched to correlate to whichever device i last touched.

Could your controller be defective? I was thinking about buying a XBOX controller just for this game as well.

it's worked fine in Darksiders. I haven't tried with other games. I should try Batman AA. that's another Square/Enix game.

and I just spent some time trying to get motionjoy to work with my PS3 gamepad (Sixaxis only, no dualshock for me). And I can't get the fricking analog buttons to work. :( got I hate this crap.

I dunno, the only time I played Just Cause 2 was at my friend's house a couple months ago. He has a 360 controller, Windows 7, JC2 on Steam, and it works perfectly. Oh yeah then my bro bought JC2 on the Steam sale, went and bought a 360 controller, and it worked perfectly right away for him too.

I think you effed up bro. :)

I don't know what I did, as the controller works perfectly everywhere else. This seems to be a common problem, as I've found the same issue on the Eidos forums.

for those that have had no problems--are you running nVidia GPU? my ATI drivers are up to date. I turned off logitech KB/M game detection mode (diNovo KB, MX100 mouse).

still nothing. tried offline mode, nothing. this is totally fucked. what really baffles me, is that the load screen recognizes the controller--it asks for "press start," but doesn't respond to a single button. just tapping the mouse forces it to change to "press enter."

works fine with Batman AA, too.

gahhhhh

gahhh!

so, still haven't gotten the pad to work. IN desperation, I tried both motioninjoy (suggested here) and x360ce for my PS3 controller (Sixaxis--no dualshock). couldn't get the PS3 controller working--i'm a serious klutz when it comes to very inexplicit software like that, and so I tried to get it to emulate the 360 gamepad, hoping that might trick it into working in JC2.

well....now Windows seems to think my wired 360 pad is a wireless 360pad, the ring light thingy constantly flashes (all 4 quadrants), and it crashes any game when I have it hooked in. freeze, task manager, close program, and it will not close until I unplug the pad.

for fucks sake...

I can't seem to manually uninstall any sort of driver and reinstall. 32bit windows or 64bit drivers don't fix anything. I deleted the other emulators--I guess I need to try to re-run them to somehow fix this thing back to it's semi-useful state?

:(
